Arcan 3-ton all aluminum jack, weighs 5lb less than their hybrid steel/aluminum and design looks cooler
A20018
Used to have one. Never used it. Sold it for a little cheaper.
Years later now I need one.
Ordered it off Amazon and they mailed the wrong one. Great, money held hostage until they receive shipment.
Maybe second time is the charm. I'll try again.
Got a second shipped and went to go use it; thing returns down upon pump.
Am I not understanding the operation of this thing properly? Handle was tightened to the right (on).
Obviously loosen to left is to lower/bring down.
They have a couple of negative reviews. Maybe I should've sprung for the uglier hybrid that barely weighs anymore and was apparently reliable enough for Costco to sell it.
Anyone else dealt with this?
When jacking up, rather than stay held at the height, it will drop maybe 0.5-1" and then stay.
So it does not end up sagging all the way down like a blown seal. However, I do find it odd it does not just steadily raise up and hold.
I'll take a closer look at how it operates to see if it's by design or not.
Does the same thing if I stand on it.
No other jack I've had did that. Like my old jacks if I stood on them, they'd go up, hold. Not "back down 0.5" immediately.
Or if I jacked up cars, it would go Up, Hold. Then place jackstand under frame rail, and lower.
From a practical standpoint, it's dumb as hell.
Say you're jacking up a transmission to max height, right where heat shields start to hit the frame rails.
Imagine that is exactly the height you need to put the transmission at for whatever reason.
Well with this jack now you can't, because upon pushing up to that height, it immediately falls down 0.5" right after and stays there. So no matter how many times you try again, it just keeps doing that.
The reviews say their customer support/warranty is pretty useless.
So maybe first I will try swapping it through Amazon for another one...
I see they just raised the price from $230 to $300
I guess in addition to it being ****** they have to charge more as well
Interesting that the logo on the side says "Professional Tools" when it operates like a dollar store clown wig
My co-worker has the same design/production source but relabeled as another brand (costs more, you pay for the sticker); his not only works well/properly despite looking the same, but has lasted a while too
weird thing is I don't remember it doing it at first/during the beginning of use, where I was looking under the vehicle and operating the handle lower. Maybe the problem is me. Maybe that is just how it acts with the handle operated closer to vertical, as opposed to close to the floor. Due to narrow room maybe I should've removed the back half of the handle (spring pin) to operate in "half handle" mode closer to the floor in those rare situations.

situations.
