Does anyone know if this new G1 cert would be worth getting? I've been a vw tech for 3 years but want to learn other brands and most dealers or independents want ASE certs. Here's a description from ASE...

"The Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification Test (G1) contains 55 scored questions, plus 10 unscored research questions covering knowledge of the skills related to maintenance and light repairs in engine systems, automatic transmission/transaxle, manual drive train and axles, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical, and heating and air conditioning."

It seems like a good way to get started.

i seen that .. i think its a basic knowledge test for like Jiffy lube guys

Good way to get started is to take them all.. A1-8
Brakes, Steering and Suspension, HVAC & Engine Repair are pretty basic
Auto Trans, Manual Drivetrain, Engine Performance take a little more knowledge
A9 Diesel and L1 Advance level are probably the hardest.

Sounds like a way for ASE to make more money and a way to certify quick lane type techs.

You can't go wrong with A1-8 plus L1 if you want to be an auto tech.
