It looks like Stanley is trying another "why have a toolbox full of tools when you can just have this" type tools.

http://www.stanleytools.com/default.asp?TYPE=PRODUCT&CATEGORY=WRENCHES&PARTNUMBER=STHT72123

I just saw an ad on TV for it, I haven't used it or even seen it, but I can't imagine it's going to work where a lot of torque is needed, nor will it get into tight places.

How many folks want their Secret Santa to give them one of these this coming Christmas?

I think I saw these in walmart some time ago. This is one of those tools for home owners to save them "time" and "money". Nothing wrong with that because for house stuff it will probably be okay. I mean they could use a 5 dollar ratchet/socket set and it would get the job done but then they'd have to fit the hex sizes, this doesn't have that problem (if it works, which is probably does...marginally at low torque).

Perfect for ladies putting together cheap furniture.

The quick way to grind off those pesky, unsafe edges on the heads of fasteners. Act now and we'll throw in a left-hand-threaded screwdriver with separate shipping and handling.

The Wonderful Lady that lives across the street, and is a better Grandparent to our kids than both my or my Wife's parents, bought me a pair of pliers like that.....I think, as you guys are stating, you know how most of us hard-core tool guys think about things like this (just hate to infect the tools in my tool-box with THAT kind of disease!), but I would hate to hurt her feelings....finally took it out of the box, but it sits some where downstairs by the furnace---but not too close! ;)

Ummm....

Whyyyyyyyyyy

look at the pictures, says exactly why.

because if all you do is put together a kids playset, change a lawnmower blade, and tighten the occasional bolt here or there you don't need a 250 dollar wrench set.

sentimental value is still value, some people make it known that they didn't know what they were buying as give a gift receipt with it, others would like to think their gift is appreciated regardless of how useful it can be compared to what you have. should be easy to tell the difference.

Wow! I hope they ship quickly! I already slid all the Plomb stuff into the dumpster...no more lugging around 300 pounds of scrap iron when one of those will go right in my pocket!

Because if all you do is loosen or tighten extremely "open"/clear-of-any-obstruction bolts and nuts, you're fine with just this ugly thing*

Try doing anything that isn't a swingset or a lawn mower, and you're screwed. Actually, most anything on that lawnmower that isn't the blade will not be removable with that contraption anyways.

A crappy ratchet with one extension and a few common cheap-o sockets will fare much better.
