New Automatic Air Compressor Drain Question

I'm installing one of these electric automatic air compressor drain on my 80 gallon compressor. I have a couple questions:

1. Should I drill a hole through the wall and drain it outside?
2. Should I use 1/4 inch pipe to run through the wall or is a good plastic line fine on these?

Thank you

Plastic works. I used copper tube on mine but it was used and free, found all the fittings and screwed it together. I bushed it on the outside sheet with fuel line for the stickout, it's cold here. I didn't use an auto though, every time I read a thread about one I go over and give the valves a crack.

Depending on how much you use it and how much water you get out of it you might just be able to let it drain into a shallow pan and evaporate. That's how mine is here at my business. Mine isn't automatic but we open it every morning and drain it and don't really get much. I have an old antifreeze jug laying on its side cut in half and it rarely gets full.

I ran mine outside only because it was up against the outside wall. I also went with 1/2" black iron pipe to the manual valve, then to the automatic valve that's on an additional timer to a small run of 1/2" PEX :wtf: out the wall.

I have not finished installing my compressor yet but ran a line down from the 2nd floor where it is located and put a ball valve on the line on the 1st floor with the pipe below the valve heading out through the exterior wall and down towards the ground. Also have a motor rated disconnect switch on the 1st floor. If you mounted your compressor on a pedestal, you could do a reachable ball valve to exterior dump. All manual but for the DIYer that may be sufficient.
