this turns your mill or drill press into a percise boring (down) or facing(across) machine. It mounts to the quill and drives from the spindle. It is fully automatic. Set the desired depth of cut and hit switch and it will face across a surface(think of it like a lathe mounted vertical.) the best part is boring a hole. It has a handwheel that u adjust when the mill or drill is running! Set cut, bore, dial it out a bit more, bore etc all under power. Finally you can use the automatic function and combine boring to bore a tapered hole. Other uses, bore, face and cut an o ring groove in the ID or OD of the hole/face etc.
These ones are said to be one of the best. New they are approaching or past 10k$.
Here is a video of the typical auto heads. All are well made, chandler, narex etc. in these you set the rate and grab a knurled fitting on the head(when spinning!) to get it to feed. Mine you have a traditional crank(better imho)
But this gives u an idea. Here they are facing a surface in the first part of the video. To bore you would grab and release the knurled part a click or 2, bore, grab to adjust outward, bore etc
