Here are my new babies that I acquired this weekend and last weekend. Next is to clean and paint them so I can put them where they belong so that the garage makeover may begin.

Mouth-watering. I like the two on the right best.

Prices? Story? Give us what we want, man!

I like the 15 drawer. Best use of space. And you have a goos selection of all size drawers.

You'll find you can put every thing that you have the shelves with space left over. You can toss the shelves.

Well ?? You know we are nosy, how much?

Blue Lista on the right was $500. It's a G2 (generation 2). Seller was selling 4 and I snagged one. He said that all 4 were accounted for within an hour of the CL post. 770 lbs empty. 59 1/2" high. I guess this is what they call eye-level cabinets.

The 4 Vidmars were $1100. No IDL. Are all Vidmars like that? There are a few minor dents on the side and top. Nothing I'd worry about, though.

Both deals are from CL.

I was thinking of making a bench a la Jack using the two shorties. Since they're 30" wide, I will end up with a 7.5' work surface if I allocate 2.5' for the chair.

I'm still up-in-the-air with colors. Current rollaway is a 32" black Craftsman Professional with a red Husky on top. The other is a 72" Stainless from Costco with a wood work surface. Pallet shelving is all green like the Vidmars are now. I hate to paint anything that's powder-coated as PC is tough to beat in durability.

Good deal on the Lista. When you think about what a decent tool box with the same capacity would cost, the Lista is a steal. I like the Lista blue also.

Are you going to put them on castors?

I found two of these Lyons on CL for $100 each and couldn't pass them up. These are 24" wide. I will use these for the workbench instead of the 30" wide Vidmars. This way, a 6-ft bench will give me a 2-foot space for a stool to roll under. Along with these two was a Lyon 3' W x 2' D x 6' H storage cabinet I got for $20 on the spot. I will be repainting these tomorrow.

Last weekend, I moved the two short Vidmars and put them under the pallet shelving. To accomplish this, I had to raise the lowest shelves just above the height of the Vidmars. The short Vidmars are now full of items from the garage.

Today, I moved some sockets and wrenches into their new homes - the Lista and tall Vidmar. I am slowly emptying my Craftsman Professional rollaway. I might sell that eventually.

Tomorrow, I plan to set up the two Lyon shorties as bases for my 6-ft worktable. I'll try to snap some pics tomorrow.

Here's a picture of the Lyon after I've painted the carcass with Carson Blue. This one has had the carcass painted but not the drawers yet.

attachment.php

Here's a picture of the final colors.

They are not meant to be set up top and bottom. I was just merely saving floor space right now.

Two of these will be the base of my workbench. Workbench will be 6 ft long and 2.5 ft deep.

Here's a shot of the drawer with the sockets.

This weekend, I picked up my second Lista (3rd one in the picture). I was interested to see all 4 but the other 3 were accounted for by the time I contacted the seller. The 9-drawer was fine as I don't have one yet.

I managed to move stuff around and put a storage cabinet and the blue Lista in their final planned position. With the mayhem in my garage, I now have a bit more room to organize my stuff so that I can create even more room.

Tally of storage cabinets as of today:

59.5" high:
  • Lista 16-drawer
  • Lista 9-drawer
  • Vidmar 4-drawer
  • Vidmar 6-drawer
  • Lyon 37"-wide 16-drawer

33" high:
  • two Lyon 24" wide 5-drawer
  • two Vidmar 30" wide 3-drawer

Nice! They can be addicting because of all that wonderful storage. Did you steal this latest one?

Very nice. I would love to have a 15 drawer cabinet like that, regardless of brand. 6 of my cabinet sets are with varying size dawer not too many slim one and the space does get wasted.

This past weekend, I moved the 9-drawer Lista into its final position next to its 16-drawer brother. I need to level them relative to each other.

Tonight, I thought I'd remove the handles of two drawers and wiped them down with acetone to remove sticky stuff and dirt. I had time so I rolled the green paint on the top two drawers. Sorry, Jack. I've had this green paint matching my pallet rack way before I found GJ. It is a beautiful color. I will roll a few more drawers tomorrow and hope to be done with the 9-drawer by the weekend.

ONLY the two top drawers have had their faces painted. The green paint I had matches the Lista green so closely. The Vidmars will be painted the same color. The paint will refresh the Vidmars' paint as they have some scratches.

Did a bit more painting today. On the 9-drawer Lista, counting the drawers beginning with Drawer 1 from the top, I:

- put back the drawer pulls on Drawers 1 and 2 since their 2nd coat already dried
- put the second coat of paint on Drawers 3 and 4
- put the first coat of paint on Drawers 5 and 6

attachment.php

On the 4-drawer Vidmar, I:
- put a second coat on Drawer 1
- put a first coat on Drawer 2

Update:

Here's the 9-drawer Lista after a fresh coat of paint. I still can't remove those darn marker stains on the aluminum handles.

The Vidmar4 with a fresh coat of paint:
attachment.php

The Vidmar7. Note the magnetic drawer labels. I got the idea here on GJ. I used those refrigerator magnets that realtors give away. It's nice to be able to move them when I relocate tools.
attachment.php

I tried painting a drawer in the 37" Lyon. I'm still on the fence whether to paint it black or the same color as the carcase. If I leave this green, I might put black inserts on the handles.
attachment.php

Here's the Lyon cabinet I bought for $20. I'm prepping it and will paint it Carson Blue to match the Lyon shorties.

Try either hairspray or white board cleaner (office supply) to clean those stains.

Very nice!!! :D

My only personal objection is about the drawer labels. Imagine someone breaking into your shop only to find a beautifully organized road map to The Good Stuff ...

I'd leave them on there until I knew where everything was with the new arrangement, but get rid of 'em after that.

Keep up that fine work!! You're an inspiration to Craig's List Pickers. :D

Picked up another "baby" today. This one is an 8-drawer 42" high Lista. I need to redo my floorplan again. Sigh!!!

Needs cleaning up but the aluminum handles aren't bent so should easily get restored once cleaned up. $250 for inquiring minds.

More cabinets. I promise that these are my last ones.
attachment.php

The low one (36"W x 24"D x 29"H $45)
attachment.php

will be the base for a 36"W x 24"D x 42"H this office-type storage cabinet similar to this one ($50). Total height will be just under 6 feet.
attachment.php

This taller one (36"W x 24"D x 34"H $45) might be a base for a welding table I will make. Will 35" be too high for a welding table? I'm 5'10". It should be ok.

Today, I moved these two cabinets to their final place. I didn't have any help so I did what the Egyptians did thousands of years ago. I used a lever and rollers (I learned the roller trick from Jack). A 2x4 for the lever and 1/2" EMT conduit for the rollers.

I also did some painting. This is the 29"-high machine stand I will use for a base for a 42"-high office cabinet. Why blue? Because my son told me that he doesn't like the green I've been using. Yes, he told me AFTER I've painted more than half of them green. Sigh!!! He picked out this blue.

The new blue kinda blends in with the Carson Blue of the Lyon cabinet next to it.
I am so tired!!!

I put the locking hardware back and here's what it looks like closed up.

We're contemplating on putting something on that 4" blank space at the bottom of the top office cabinet. Perhaps a power strip could go there. Or maybe a car stereo would work too.
