Hopefully we can get some decent weather (Get all the snow and sub zero temps out of here) and get moving forward! Maybe by early spring I will have my 30x48x12 pole barn up.

I did ask about burning but was turned down. The nice gentleman that issued the demolition permit for me to tear that down, was trying to say that its on the National Historic Registrar, thanks goodness it wasnt. It took me 3 trips and approx 12 man hours to get a demolition permit, hope the building permit goes a little better. Now if we can get rid of this weather!!

We hauled out 38 tri axle loads of debris (Barn/trees/rubbish) and 18 tri axle loads of dirt in. 2 big piles on the lot, one of dirt and one of gravel that we used accordingly. The lot was getting all the drainage/water runoff from the back and side, now we have a nice graded lot with drainage swales in, water will flow around bldg to creek.

Nice work on clean up OP. Guess oldie was beyond a fix-er-upper ?? ;)

Yes, it was falling down, beyond repair, it actually had horse stalls inside it. A good friend of mine owns an excavating company, he was done with a the case track hole on a job he was doing (I think a Case 340 w/4' bucket), it worked out perfect. WE cleared the whole lot. This property had been vacant for many years with people dumping stuff on it, I city came in and "Cleaned" the lot up because it was an eyesore, they pretty much pushed everything down into the creek, we have since pulled all debris out. There is a 115 Y.O fram house on the property also. I have it cleaned out and somewhat gutted. The neighbors are all pretty happy and I think me new best friend is the 80 y. o gentlemen that lives behind the property over there. Hes a great guy.
Now if we can get the snow and sub zero temps pushed out of here and proceed forward.

I tried to talk the volunteer fire department in to having a training session. It didn't work for me either. Nice clean up.

I tried, there actually is a VFD up the road, but was given the statement "No Dice Son" when I asked about it. They new exactly where I was talking about when I told them where it was. It all worked out good, other than it was about the 30 hardest days of work in my life, cleaning up the lot. Now I have a lady that stops by and asks when its for sale!! I have to keep her and my wife away from each other, my wife has name this place the money pit $$.

I just spent the whole summer tearing the 100+ year old barn down after the previous winter caved the roof in. Burned the rotten junk and separated all the beams and good siding to us for firewood. Believe it or not, it is far more economically beneficial to me to burn the old wood for heat instead of selling it. Since you are in Kentucky, the same might not hold true for you.

My main concern was getting it tore down in the 30 day time frame my permit was. The demolition permit requirments was definately a learning experience on my part, but now the 1.5 acre lot is cleared of all debris. The property inspector was happy, the building inspector was happy, as is all the neighbors. I have already talked to the power company about a 200 amp underground service feeding my new barn. I also will move the new barn back about 50' closer to the edge of the property. The old horse barn was more in the middle. I can get plenty of firewood and I actually have a pot belly wood stove, but I am not sure if I will go that route or not.

If there is a drainage problem it is always best to get that fixed first rather than try to do something about it later on after you are having problems.

No, all the drainage issues have been fixed, but to the trained eye, thats the first thing my buddy brought up (You have a water issue). I would have figured that out...eventually...maybe... I have moved the area for this pole barn back to the rear corner of the property, 25' from one side and I had it 25' the other way also, but I think I might push it back about 8'. I already have my water stubbed out into barn. Building codes here are 10' away from property line.
We dug drainage swales down the property line and around where the bldg will go and brought a bunch of dirt in. I am guessing we have raised the finish grade propbably 2' in this area and I have a 50' wide gravel pad in place.
This has been in place since last summer. I know the water was the last thing we ran over to bldg area, only equipment there was the Case trackhole with 4' wide bucket, so I ran a 1" poly water line in a 4' wide ditch, oh well. (This was after the finish grading) 150# of grass seed, 55 bales of straw and three 8'x100' rolls of straw mesh, and we now have grass.

I went down to take my building permit out (Permit writer-1, Me-0) although I do have everything else he wanted done, health dept and sewer dept/utilitiy companies sign off, he wanted a few more documents and drawings on trusses and wants a LVL beam above my 12' wide O.H. door. (My doors will be on the eave side) I am ordering material from truss/metal company. He wants to look at my gravel pad setup, and if his crew can get in here and work with out mud, he quoted a labor price, his crew has stopped because of the weather we have been having. I am almost tempted to let them put it up in a week or less!! We are suppose to meet early next week. I hope this snow melts soon.
