I wanted to carry a bicycle on trips in my van. I didn’t want to carry my mountain bike on the front because of blocking headlights, bugs, etc. I didn’t like it in the back either because of added length behind spare tire and issues with taillights and rear door opening. So I decided to buy a small folding bike and design and build a carrier for it that would tuck In closely beside the rear spare tire. I added a 2inch receiver on the passenger side first. Then basically built a tee that fits in it. Then I made a swing out section to hold the bike. It’s pretty simple to swing out the bike and then open the rear door. The bike attaches well and doesn’t wiggle around. I am very satisfied with how it looks and works. Also I’m surprised how easy the bike folds up and especially how handles and rides.
