good afternoon all.

I recently received approval from the wife to build a garage (step 1 is always the hardest)

I would like to draft something up to give to the town / builders so i can get some quotes and also potentially give an architect some of my ideas and thoughts.

Any good cheap/free products for drafting?

thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

Try checking out Architectural Designs website. They have some nice detached garage plans.

Good luck with your new project and keep us all informed of your project status.

I believe good ol AutoCAD give a 30 day trial on everything...if you know a student you can get a year license

Trust me, unless you know autoCAD or at least are "recently proficient" in it, this is probably the SLOWEST way to draw something.

I don't know what the OP is building - if it's "commercial style" - like a steel framed building, lots of places have 3d tools that are super easy (Mueller, Inc).

If it's stick framed and more like a home, there are lots of places that have pre-made garage plans, but they do cost a bit...

GC's builder may have preferences for architects. Around here, I saw a neighbor build a 2,800 sqft home basically off "napkin plans" - doing things like figuring out the roof plan live... I don't recommend it, but it's possible.

Really? I haven't used it in years and still feel like I could rattle something off fairly quick

Then again I haven't really used anything else so its all I know "well"

Here's your chance to do a solid favor for the op.
Input his pencil drawing for him.
He doesn't have to learn a new skill and you get to tune your old skill.

Hah thanks but not necessary. Just hired an architect to draw something up for me with these photos as inspirations
