Not sure what you are asking, if anything..but Autozone and Orrielly will lend out the universal kit for 48 hours IIRC. I have used it a couple of times and returned it when I was finished. If you do this be sure that you get everything (or take a picture of the kit in front of the salesperson).

The cube has worked just fine for all but one car I've needed to do, a Mustang. I'll probably end up buying a special tool for this when I have the need (and the cash), but for now the cube works just fine, and takes up much less space in my crowded box.

Wow I could have used one of those on friday. My boss was doing the brakes on his wifes 07 gt mustang. As im looking over from the other side of the shop i see him cussing and getting pissed off, because he couldnt compress the rear calipers. Keep in mind this is a body shop so we dont usually do brakes( but when we do I usually do them) so as im watching him using c clamps and pry bars i was kind of laughing. When i saw him attempt to use his portapower wedge to compress i decided to go over and give him a hand. now im new to the trade(im only 18) so i take a look at the calipers and atempt to compress them not knowing that they have to be "screwed" in. No luck then he deciedes to order calipers. Now im thinking there has to be something stupid that were not doing right. so i go in the office and google it...30 mins later and some help of channellocks i had the brakes done.

i guess you could say i was on his goodlist the rest of the day

they screw the piston in on REAR disc brakes with the parking brake built into the caliper.........a c-clamp will not work.

and as an added bonus , on the freestyle ford vans 1 side will turn clockwise while the other side has to be turned in counterclockwise

Indeed, among a few other FLM vehicles, IIRC. Usually if doing a newer Ford, I'll check Mitchell first (though I wish we had AllData instead...)

The cube goes both ways :D

that is only on bosch brakes. ford used them a couple of car lines and they all failed prematurely. there was a recall.

Does anyone else use this set?

Blue Point Caliper Set

I use mine a lot with the families Toyota's, Honda's, Ford's and the Volvo that I finally got rid rid of. Some of the best money that I have ever spent on brake tools (other than my power bleeder). Snap-on also has the "cube" but I have never used one. How well do they work on a "sticky" caliper?

I learned this 30 something years ago when I had a Fiat X/19 with rear disc brakes. It had a slot in the piston so you could screw it in with a screw driver.

Then I replace the rear pads for a friend on a Dodge Conquest 10 plus years ago and could not use a screw driver. I bought one of those cubes and broke one of the nubs of it. Bought another and finished the job.

Then I bought this Lisle set from Pep Boys. Never used it. I have a Porsche Boxster with rear disc brakes, but they use drum brakes for the parking brake.

What do you use to turn this tool. I have tried a Lisle and used a Lisle tap holding socket. This worked better than an 8 point socket.
A cube is hard to use as you have to press hard or it will strip.
I think the OTC I have is much easier to use but the small disc you have to purchase from AST or Snap On.

The outer nut is turned opposite the drive bolt in the center to keep tension on the caliper. That prevents the stud from slipping out of the caliper face. Most of the time I can turn it by hand to keep up with the caliper bolt that is rotating the piston back in.

It will compress the caliper, just not correctly....:shocking:

My set is from Germany I think and I use it on my VWs rear discs. Works well and paid for itself after one job. :bounce: Several different sizes of discs for the rotating/caliper end as well.
