New Britain Ratchets from E-bay!

Honestly, if it were me, I'd probably sell them off (to someone who doesn't hang out here ) there are simply too many great ratchets out there to spend your time dicking around with crappy ones.

I disagree, yes he should sell them all if he hates them, but I bet many on the board such as you and me would likely find them totally acceptable. Why not sell them to someone on the board? He can state the facts as they are, he hates the feel of the ratchets and they work perfectly fine!

I do think life is just too short to keep that many ratchets you think are clunkers, I would unload them and find some I enjoy using.

Do they all **** or is the NS65 with the older script better than the others?

If you decide to try grease in them I would be interested to know if that helps the action. The NB45 that I have was pretty smooth but had a loud clickity click
sound that reminded me of the cheap import ratchets that come in the kits with the fake inflated price tags. After the grease it was very nice. On the other hand I have a Blackhawk round head ratchet that the the action just ***** and the lube did not improve it at all. If you open them up it would also be interesting to know if the Sparta ratchets are the same inside as the New Britain ratchets. I don't kneed to know this information. I am only interested for the sake of broadening the old ratchet knowledge.

my ratchet came dry from the seller,no lube.I tried white lithium grease and was not satisfied.tried bearing grease and was a lot better.this ratchet will only be use on suspension parts and turning motors by hand,we'll see if it holds up.

conclusion: cheap clunky ratchets=bearing grease
if you have an import round head ratchet,try the bearing grease.

I have found that the round head ratchets with teeth cut into the ratchet handle head (SK, old NAPA) like Breakfree CLP(Cleaner,Lubricant,Preservative) It's a medium weight oil that was designed for cleaning weapons but, has other uses. I use it in most of my ratchets.

They all **** equally. I may grease them, but I doubt it.

I'm thinking the same. Unfortunately, I sold my Craftsman ratchets at a loss to get these.

before you give up on them try some teflon grease. mine was "clunky", it even rattled when you shook it. i used a little teflon grease and it was smooth as butter. it'll never be so 80 tooth smooth but they will work great.

I just bought 5 of these 15" long handle, !/2 inch drive ratchets. I had one and i just broke it (using a cheater). It was my favorite ratchet for hanging header steel. I am a millwright by trade and the small head and light weight of this tool makes it ideal for my work, especailly doing overhead conveyor work, also the fine teeth are good for getting in tight spots. The snap on is a better quality heavy duty ratchet, but A little too heavy to use in akward places over your head and the Snap On makes an already heavy tool belt just a little bit too heavy. I was given the ratchet by a journeyman when I was an apprentice. I think it is made here in the US. The company went out of busness when more tools were made here. the one I had was so old it had to be made here and it had no made in USA on it. All the tools I buy are US made, I hope this one is too.
