My wife and I bought this house about two years ago and the agreement was that I could build a shop. We had originally budgeted for a steel building, but the HOA wouldn't allow for that. Now I'm doing most of the work myself to stay in budget, but honestly it's more rewarding! I've done everything except pouring the slab, installing the shingles (It's Texas after all) and I brought in pros for about half the brick work.

The outside is basically complete save for a final coat of paint, some landscaping and some plumbing work. I'm working on the inside now getting that all insulated and putting the drywall up. I also intend to build a shelving system all around the outside perimeter of the shop at 3' deep x 3' tall. I'm eventually going to install a mini-split A/C system in here as well to keep things cool during the summer. My plan is to use this as a woodworking, metal and automotive shop as well as a home office.

Nice HOA compliant build. If you don't mind me asking, why do you choose brick for the exterior?

The brick, shingles, paint and doors all match the existing home's facade. That is the HOA requirement. It was a lot more expensive to build, but I honestly like the look of it better.

Timely thread, I'm currently planning a 20x40 building. I'd much rather go wider and deeper but the lot won't allow it. Like you, I'll also be doing most of the work myself.

If you don't mind me asking, could you please share a rough breakdown of your costs? You can private message me, if you'd like.

Your place looks great, btw.
