New Build! 24x26 CMB Aero Shop!

Hey,

Browsing through this forum I found out some really nice ideas and well we started building a new garage so I though I could share the build with y'all....
So if you got any suggestions or comments I'll be happy to hear them!

Before starting we had to relocate the main electricity feed because it was in the way of the new garage...

So we had a new pole installed;

photo0191r.jpg

photo0192o.jpg

photo0194.jpg

After that we cutted down some tree to clear the new path of the electrical wire.

photo0234c.jpg

photo0206v.jpg

photo0211l.jpg

photo0237n.jpg

Then came the guy to dig the slab footing hole! :)

photo0228z.jpg

photo0232i.jpg

The delivery guy came on a Saturday morning to deliver some woods for the footing!

photo0246i.jpg

The footings were built by the contractor and myself, then we placed the insulation foam and finished the day with the rebar!

photo0250g.jpg

photo0251l.jpg

photo0253k.jpg

I marked the footings every 16" to locate the vertical rebar position for when they pour the cement!

photo0259.jpg

AND THat's it for now...we are waiting for nice weather to get the cement poured but it's always raining!!! :( Can't wait to be working inside!

Also, since I'm kinda new here, for those wondering what type of stuff I work on... here's my latest project;
I got that old 1996 Sea Doo for cheap and decided to give it a new life.... I rebuilted the sea doo and had it entirely repainted!

AFTER

img3972r.jpg

My next project when we finish the garage is building an RV-9 Plane since I'm a pilot and I am studying to be an A&P Mechanic! ;)

GREAT first post! You're gonna do fine here. Nice work on the garage. Loved the Sea, I'd go for some orange/red/white flames on that bad boy.

Water craft, airplane, cars... Hmmm, you might need a train to round things out! haha

Heyy! It's been a while since I updated this thread but I've been busy with school, then holidays, work, etc.... Anyway, here it is, a little update...
The garage framing is completely done, exterior finishing will be done after the winter and I am currently working on the interior finishing!

Now for the pictures... ;)

Nice progress, its coming out great. I like the little roof over the doors. You'll have a nice area on the second floor for your gym.

Great looking garage and looking forward to more pics

I have one question on the weatherhead for the house....shouldn't that be through the roof eave? I know that when I moved mine a few years back, code dictated that it had to be in pipe and through the eave.

Yeah, plein de monde du Québec.

I suppose the pictures were not taken yesterday ;)

You don't have to answer but if you want, can you tell me how much your slab ended up costing? I would like to know if i had a good price for mine, considering it wasn't as well made as yours.

Thanks everyone for the comments! I will be posting more pictures soon!

To answer some of your questions;

->Kevin54; I don't think the code here in Canada ask for the weatherhead to go through the roof eave because I rarely see them that way... Besides the house is almost new and the inspector found nothing wrong when we bought it so it's legal! Also we got the wire transferred to the new post by qualified electrician and they never mentioned something wrong about this setup...

->pumalex; Yep you guessed right, the picture were taken from october to late november... I am still sorting out all the pictures I took that's why I didn't upload them all at once. I will be posting more pictures soon but I am still working on the garage so it's far from finished yet.
As for the price of the slab, I don't mind helping you out, but do you want the cost with the material required to build the slab footing or just the price of the cement and the labour!?

well i hired someone to make the job so he made me a price for everything included, if you didn't do it that way i guess we can't really compare. I didn't even lift a shovel for the slab so everything was included.

Very nice garage by the way

Okkk, well I will look into it tomorrow but I think the final price for the slab was around 9K$; this includes digging the hole, the wood for the footing, rebar every 8", building the footing with the 6" sidewalls, insulation on the base of the slab to minimize heat loss, the cement and the labour...

Keep in mind that most of the wood used for the footing was reused to build the garage and we almost had no material loss.

If you want I can look into specific prices of the construction and pm them to you...let me know! What kind of slab did you get built? Do you have a thread of your garage?

photo0312m.jpg

We also got the main feed electricity wire transferred to the new pole installed earlier...

photo0308e.jpg

Here's the hole I dig between the house and the garage for the electric wire feeding the garage...

photo0292o.jpg

Finished the front roof on top of the garage doors with roof shingles

photo0324f.jpg

I am sorry I forgot to take picture during the installation of the floor on the 2nd... but here's the back-wall that we built and then installed the front window...

photo0315q.jpg

Next was the 1st floor windows and the side door installation...

photo0317v.jpg

photo0318g.jpg

Foam insulation added around the door and windows...

photo0322b.jpg

For added insulation and protection against heat loss we installed a Resisto Membrane around all the windows and door...

photo0329y.jpg

And the last picture for tonight.... framing for both garage doors was built and ready to be closed!

Hey,

To answer your question Simonac; I live in the region of Saint-Lazare, Vaudreuil-Dorion, Rigaud... For the overall height, I will look into the plans because I don't remember exactly, but the ceiling on the 1st floor is 9' high and in the middle of my trust I have about 8' high... Must be around 19~21 feet high but I will check back to be sure! Why u asking? Did you also get the roof trusses accommodated for a room on the 2nd floor!? The roof pitch is 10/12...

For now the insulation blocks the path to the inside... so if they do get in they will be stuck in insulation which I can still remove! Also, the garage is not heated yet so they don't seem to be coming... Soffit will be installed after winter at the same tide as the Cannexel Siding...

If one lucky guest makes it's way there, I will kick him out! :p

LOL Kev come on down to Louisville and I will take you across the bridge into southern Indiana and show you things that will make you go :wtf:. Burried wire run up the side of the house to the weatherhead and better yet Romex on the outside of the EXTERIOR walls.

Ahh heat!If there is no heat that should keep em away.I heated mine and three flying squirrels moved into the insulation above the heater exhaust. They destroyed aprox. 6ft x6ft of insulation.Had to rip out some drywall to get em and replace the mess they made.Little "/&?% bastards!!Trapped them with a cage trap, kept them in a bird cage till spring.
Cute little buggers though. Grrrrrrr!

RV-9, very nice. I'm good with my hands, but do I trust my work enough to fly in it?? I'm sticking with a rented 172 for now, but would love to see pics of your build when you get going. Good luck!

Thanks all for your comments!

Here's some answer to your question...

-> HPW; Cannexel Siding is pretty much like vynil but it's a different kind of materials that looks like wood but is more weatherproof then wood! Comes in different quality and color and sure beats vynil siding, but it also comes at a cost a little higher than vynil!
Here's the official website; http://www.canexel.ca/en/gallery/gallery.html
and if you click on Ridgewood D-5™, you'll see what it looks like! The house is already covered with Cannexel so you can see it in some pics...

->NASTYZEN; That sure is a lot of trouble just for some uninvited guest... But like I said, there's no drywall yet so even if one gets it's way there, i just pull the insulation and voila.... Besides, it will only be heated when I will work in it for this winter...

->v77v77; Yep, RV-9... I've worked in the past for the company Bushcaddy (http://www.bushcaddy.com/en/) building parts and assembling airplanes so I know the kind of work it involves... Besides, I am on my second year of study to get my A&P Licence, one more to go! :D
When I will get started on the this project, I will surely start a thread for it! ;)
If your interested I can even post pictures of my previous work at Bushcaddy, just to show you the kind of work it involves and how it's done!?

Some more pictures for today! ;)

Installed the vapor barrier and stuffing on one of the side walls...

photo0336s.jpg

Also installed one of the two 4000W Heating Unit to keep the garage under freezing temps...

photo0379.jpg

Started building myself a nice workbench 12' x 4' with the remaining wood so I can do some little work and it made me some space....

photo0338h.jpg

Finished all the R40 insulation on the first floor ceiling...

photo0381n.jpg

Started building a little wall upstairs to prevent people from falling in the stairs... ;p

photo0380x.jpg

Also received the 100AMP electrical panel, mounted it and started wiring some circuits... As you can see I can sometime be a little bit to perfectionist... looll

photo0384g.jpg

Here's my temporary stereo system installation... :p
I busted the two midbass, speakers were very very old and the rubber wasn't flexible anymore!

photo0382s.jpg

Putting up the R40 in the trusses upstairs can sometimes be tricky... :p

photo0388i.jpg

photo0391k.jpg

Putting up the vapor barrier on one side of the wall upstairs...

photo0389k.jpg

Started installing the stuffing on the same wall...

photo0395.jpg

The only lost space of the roof trusses design....

photo0386v.jpg

And a last one....winter shot! The garage as it sits now with my car beside it!

Again, BEAUTIFUL GARAGE
