See new tools on fb a lot. Been that way for forever. Lately I'm seeing a lot of new car batteries. One that just popped up has a date sticker of 9/23. Where do these come from? Seems strange that that many would be stolen from stores, but maybe.

With a 9/23 date sticker that either fell out the back of the factory, has a fake sticker or is just a scam pic for attention
Yeah, the managerial class calls that “shrinkage”.
In some stores a significant percentage of inventory goes out the back door instead of with paying customers through the front door.

Where's the closest battery factory to Wichita?

I see Johnson controls has a few plants, but they look to be other divisions.

If the price is right, who cares about warranty? I did buy a used 6mo old battery for my edge for $50. It is said to have come out of a wrecked car the week before, and I trust them on this. If it fails in the next 2.5 years, I got my use out of it.

On the brand new batteries, I suppose it would be the same deal. I would have to get a killer price on it then again 1/3 of new is probably there.

I got new group 65 batteries in August for a truck and they had September stickers on them.

Any day now, there will be another 800 post thread started here on "why is there so much retail theft going on?!" :headscrat

The batteries at my WM are about 30 feet from the back door - often unattended, if the techs are busy. Thought I could probably grab a couple "for the road" and nobody would even notice.

Online is where the stolen stuff is being sold.

I mean you're potentially supporting retail theft. Are you anti-business? Receiving stolen goods is also illegal. So there's that.

But hey you got you a cheap new battery.

Buying from a salvage yard isn't even close to the same thing.

Notice I didn't buy one of the brand new batteries. I don't know where the salvage yard comment came from, but I have bought batteries there. It's hit-and-miss on finding batteries that fit your application and aren't 7 years old.

I misunderstood your wrecked car source as coming from a salvage yard.

I would imagine sourcing batteries on Facebook would be hit and miss as well.
