I just was surfing on Costco.com and found this. Made by Waterloo, partially made in USA.
I can't figure out how to make this image bigger....

CAT Tool box.jpg

I just thought it was interesting and I had not seen it mentioned here on GJ.
They have a long bit about being made in the USA (from global components.)

They also have a new other sizes.

They might be made slightly better than the Craftsman boxes though :dunno:

Waterloo made Craftsman Boxes for decades but they were made a little cheaper than a regular waterloo box of the same vintage to meet the lower sears price point. At 18 inches deep, it would probably be a nice box for home use. I'm surprised no one has jumped in singing the merits of the Harbor Freight boxes by now.

Meh, looks like cheap **** to me. I've had several of the SOs and would go that route if you wanted a Cat box, also have a WW2 Cat box made by Blackhawk.

The 52" combo doesn't look too bad drawer arrangement size. The 40" combo is another we don't know how to design a tool box tool box. Why do modern tool boxes need be all 6" and deeper drawers.

The funny thing is, that there are CAT branded boxes. But when I go through the bays at PPG all I see are Proto tool boxes. For whatever reason that seems to be the preferred box there.

I dont recall what years specifically but Proto has made boxes for Cat in recent (last 20) years. If you go through any of the plants around Peoria, PPG, Edwards, or the Tech Center you'll see mostly SO but quite a few Protos too.

Yeah, now that you say it, I seem to recall seeing a CAT Flyer/Parts Cataglog with some cabinets in it and they were Vidmar cabinets..so on a Corporate Level I think CAT is a "Proto shop"...

These cabinets are just Licensed Merchandise...which is cool and all...but...

For the money, compared to a HF 44" with a discount coupon..........

I would have loved a CAT box when I worked for them. But, after 18 years there I am out of a job because they are closing the plant here. I'll pass.

Yeah, I can't say I blame you. That would leave a sour taste in my mouth.

Cheaper to make thus it keeps the selling price down
