New Channellock Socket Sets (Metal Case)

Hi all, sorry if this is a duplicate thread, I searched and couldn't find another

Has anyone bought, used, or seen a set of these?
I'm not sure when they came out, the site says "new".
I like the metal cases and the standard/deep sizes that come in each box.

They come in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2. Separate metric and SAE.

Or cheap crappy sockets that aren't worth it?

As much as I like Channellock, these kind of items are just them using their name recognition to try to make a dollar. The tools are mediocre at best.

Hummm, made in Taiwan... fancy case. Your right, it's just a sales gimmick.
I hate seeing Channel lock using their good name this way.

I really like Channellock Pliers. The name is synonymous with quality and American made. I never understood why companies prostitute their name for the sake of a few extra bucks. You would think they would not want to tarnish their reputation. If I were Channellock, I would not want to put my name on anything that I didn’t produce in MY OWN factories. Channellock, you’re losing me... just stick to what you do best.

It appears they are moving away from mainland China to Taiwan, so that is good.

I think the business end of the tool game eludes most of us, it's probably more cut throat than imagined.

I had seen those on Amazon, and considered buying one. There are a couple of useful sizes of socket that are skipped. I'd be curious how the metal boxes are - if they're a decent gauge, that should be a nice selling feature in a modestly priced socket set.

I have mixed feelings on rebranding. It's easy to say "no", but if you have to invest in a whole lot of new plant and equipment (and development and learning) everytime you release a new product, it could be difficult to develop a business. Channellock rebranding the Irega wrenches, for example, allows them to sell an excellent product and expand their distribution.

Socket sets, well, not sure how much it helps grow their distribution, but on the flip side even a fairly commodity grade Taiwanese socket set is respectable.

As said by someone else, channellock has been doing this for quite some time. I agree with the idea that it's shortsighted and foolish, but I'm also not worried about their pliers falling apart.
