You must been the one who got the T handles, eh? What forum do you know him from?

12vinsider.com . he posted everything there first, but with minimal bites..I told him to come over here as I figured it'd be easy to clear out..

Why does it make a difference? The owner of the site does not or did not want to do it. Whether we agree with it or not doesn't mean squat, his site his rules.

I don't agree about no political talk in "free parking", you do and so does the site owner so the rule gets obeyed (mostly).

so saying "it can't be done due to a software issue" is technically correct but an evasive answer.....it should have been "we don't have the manpower or the willingness to do this" or "we just don't want to" right?

is there that many more mods over there? or is it that that's what the members there wanted?

I'm sorry you guys are having issues. Unfortunately, we have no way of limiting people in the classifieds by post count. Even then, it would not be a guarantee for you to not have any issues.

Gonna look into this character for you guys and see what I can find from this end...

NM. My mistake.

Hi Today a member with 10 posts (Paullew) wants to sell some snap on tools.
Another member replies watch out (New member Post).
Member Mooman replies in effect hey I got smoked by a Senior Member!

Let us return to this topic:How hard is it to rate any member?

I'm guessing we're not going to get that ability. If we do, someone will buy something off a member with a good rating, get screwed and raise holy hell. :shocking:

Best bet is to PM other members who buy frequently and ask them if they've bought anything from the member in question. Of course that means some people will have to be guinea pigs. As I posted earlier, I'd rather not be one.

there could be a sticky in classifieds. after a transaction, the buyer states the sellers name and states would do bussiness with again or not. it could turn into a bit of reading after while, but..
im sure there is an add on for a rating system, but you will have a few stating that "if the ownwer wanted it, he would of had it in place"

In lieu of a rating system, you or one of your buyer's can create a thread strictly for your transaction feedback. Put a link in your sig to that thread so people can read your feedback.

There is a Honda forum (can't remember name) which doesn't allow users under ** amount of posts to post in the classified section.

I agree posts do not equal trust, but you can sometimes get a feel for someone.

How about a cheers and jeers section. That's where people can post up about good or bad in a thread. Then members can doa search and find out what they want.

it doesn't really....

i just think "i don't want to" is a better response than using software as an excuse. i little truth goes a long way:beer:

Where would we put the thread? Every time a post was made it would pop to the top. It could really clutter up the classifieds.

You know, you could start the post with a poll:

Great Seller:
OK Seller:
Poor Seller:

I was thinking in the Free Parking section...for now. Don't use a poll. Maybe I can talk Ryan into making a new section strictly for this. We shall see. If a new section is made, I will move the threads to that section.

The key is for the seller to put the link to the ONE feedback thread so everyone knows where to post. Free Parking is not searchable so you need to provide a link. Put the link in your signature.

If you want to be the guiney pig, I can make one for you and you can put it in your sig. I've bought a couple things from you in the past without issues, so I can give good feedback.

Let me know and I will show you what I mean

One of the BMW forums I'm on has a sub-forum called "Transaction Feedback"...it works pretty well IMHO.

http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=105

Nothing fancy, no special software or programming needed. Basically, it gets started when someone completes a transaction with another board member- they start a thread with the other person's name as the subject. They make their comments and a brief summary of the transaction.

Once it gets going, you are supposed to search for the person's name before making a new thread- this keeps all comments about 1 person in a specific thread, so people can see good and bad comments in one place.

bmwpower- you're on R3V, right? What about this?

So each seller would then have one feedback thread all their own correct? But it would still pop to the top in Free Parking, would that be an issue? If you check with Ryan and it's the way to go, let me know and I'll be happy to make one of my own and post the link.

Hi,

For the computer illiterate such as myself if you do come up with anything please keep it simple (not to complex or fancy)!

Thank you everyone for posting your ideas.

Woody.

Yea, that's what I was talking about above ^^^

Right. See Rigmaster's link above. That's actually where I got the idea. I'm buried in that list somewhere.

I'd rather have it in Free Parking than in classifieds since that would disrupt things. I don't think it will be a problem leaving things in free parking for the time being?

Others?

Due diligence. This is the buyers job, not the sites job.

This I agree with. I got burned, but I don't want more rules to "protect" me. I'll just be more careful in the future, like I should have been from the beginning.

When I'm buying or selling anything online, I don't expose anything I'm not ready to lose, and that goes both ways, money sent for an item possibly not ever received, and items sent that may be charged back. If you cant handle the risk, brick and mortar or local purchase would be your answer.

Well, in all fairness to you, and me and anyone else that got shafted, what exactly would be "more careful" in this case? Ok, the guy had zero post count, but so did I. He also had been a member for approximately 4-5 years. I can't imagine he planned that far ahead to come here and shaft some people. He had a cell number, a home number, and an address. I spoke with him on the cell, and left messages on his home machine that he knew I left without me telling him. His address and phone numbers were all Las Vegas local as he said. I mean short of me flying to vegas and picking up what I was going to buy, what else was there to do? If there was something else I'm all ears because I'd be sure to take to heart next time around.

Maybe we should make it mandatory to post pictures with a piece of paper with your forum name on it and the date. That would take care of alot of scammers because you would have to have the tools in order to take the picture. Just a thought. I have seen other forums do this.

Thats a good idea, not fool proof, buy maybe just enough to get some lazy scammers to take their BS elsewhere, that doesnt have the hoops.

The girlfriend hangs out on a Vbulletin "art glass making forum" that has some kind of post transaction function tool built in, where you leave a message in a consolidated place, pretty much like you guys have been discussing. She constantly buys and sells glass without incident ?

Again, a piece of paper is not going deter someone from scamming. Having the tools may or may not be the problem - they could just take take the money and run, even with picts.

As a buyer, you just have to use your own judgement. There is no 100% guarantee with anything.
