Disclaimer: I am not a writer. Just noted that there was limited info on these jacks.

Well today my new floor jack came in. UPS man dropped it off.

I started my quest for a floor jack on craigslist about a year ago. After watching nothing turn up except box store specials and harbor freight products i decided that I would have to either drive out of state, over the bridge, or into detroit to pick one up. All the ones within reasonable driving distance were way over priced and usually needed rebuilding. Im talking 600 and needing a rebuild and include in that 150 plus miles. So after some researching this is what Ive compiled/decided. I may be wrong in some of this.

Chinese jacks were not an option for me. I was left with a choice of Hein Werner, or milwaulkee, or AC or Compac.

Hein Werner uses a walker/lincoln design. Very common parts are widely available and uses a good solid hydraulic unit. Parts are commonly available However. Price wise was rather high for a 3 ton unit and the frame is made of the jack is made in china then imported where the rest of the unit is assembled. I just couldnt get over the fact that the unit was assembled in The USA and not made.

Milwaulkee jacks are pretty good. USA made, big plus for me, shiny red, however they are very pricey and are backordered until august. I need a unit for the summer.

AC, I have heard serveral theories on AC. Some the units are now made in China, and some saying parts are no longer available in US or are only available via one supplier.

OR

Compac. I chose compac. Esco is the importer and after talking to the sales rep for my region, Steve, I was told that they continue to plan on supporting these for the foreseeable future. Parts and rebuilds are available, if not a little lengthy time wise in obtaining them. They also have several aftermarket accessories for their jacks

A little info on Compac is they are made in Denmark using danish steel. They have a plant in china as well using danish steel but according to Steve, Esco has decided to go with the line that are fully made in Denmark. To me this is better than china.

Compac has a three year warranty replacement parts and accessories such as saddle pads. Boggie wheels, hard rubber wheels. My supplier, Fred at Reverse Logic includes a free saddle pad with all his jacks.

Box was in fairly good shape seeing as these are dropped shipped from importer directly. I am fairly impressed with it. I ordered the 90541 model. its frame is only 5'' high and the saddle is around 3.5 high. It is a long reach model as is massive. The welds are impressive and the jack sports very nice nylon wheels. I am apprehensive about these as far as wear but I am told that they are very durable and haven't needed replacing often.

In my search I called several repair shops and was told by most shops, even the ones that sell them, that they rarely get warranty claims, or repair jobs and assume its because of the longevity of the jacks and quality of the jack. Nobody had a ton of information on the jacks aside that their danish.

The clearance from the ground to the the jack frame is very very limited. I did not measure but theirs not much.

The powder coat looks to be a good job. I have a few nicks in finish but not from shipping. The welds are continues and sharp looking. And the frame is all welded. I did try it out and it seems to be working fine. It is rated at 2000kg, so just over 2 tons.

Price came to just under 500 and that included the free saddle pad and shipping. Fred was very nice and I received my order within a week.

Overall Im happy. If it lasts 10 years without needing rebuilt Ill be happy. Will post pics soon.

More welds and a picture showing the low level clearance.

Hiball, Thanks for the time given to the sight and your time in answering the questions I had. Im hoping this jack will last a nice time. With such limited info I figured someone has to bite the bullet and give it a shot.

I've got the hi-lift version 98mm to 800mm. Expensive but a bit cheaper in the UK than the equivalent AC.

They are made in Denmark.

A Chinese company cloned the hi-lift AC model probably without permission. In the UK Sealey sells them after dropping the more expensive Danish made line. Disgraceful behaviour.

I was also in this position recently albeit in the UK, found that nobody makes them in the UK anymore (possibly weber was the last) settled on Compac and wanted the 2T (real ones) low entry one, was going to buy a brand new one, but saw one on ebay when i was camping last year, bid on it and won, the seller also had a long chassis one as well, but i wanted the low entry one.

I'm very happy with it, since owning it, every tyre fitting place I've been into at least has some Compac's,

Does anyone know what type of cup they use? They seem to be a very well built unit. I like the fact they are not made in china. I'm looking for a quality low profile jack

How much lower is this than a Hein and Werner?
When I said cup I meant the piston cup.
The 90541 is a low profile. Does it come in 2 versions (high and nl lift)?

I am not sure on the piston cup style that was something I was looking into to when I bought mine. I am sure it's of quality design after using mine almost everyday for the past week.

Dimensions are online for profile and height. I can tell you roght now that not only the saddle but the fame height is lower than the hein werner. You may have to do some conversions from metric to standard to compare though. I have the long reach low profile and I like it. It's low enough for everything I need.

The "funky" wheels are boggie wheels that are sold as an aftermarket accessorie for uneven or grated terrain.

Sounds like no forumite is in possession of the bogie wheels. They do fit a number of Compac models.

Well I did get the bogie wheels. I have a soft cement scree floor and jacks can dig in. The Compact spreads the load and that doesn't happen. It does raise the saddle height 1 cm though.

So nearly 3 years down the road a little follow up:

It's holding up great. I use it often as it is quite convenient with the foot pump and the loop handle. I have had no issues with leak down. It gets used several times per week and has been abused lifting trucks, tractors, machinery, and odds and ends. Its been a work horse.

I bought it from fred at reverselogic. Seems like a janky website but great service and great responsiveness. At the time of my purchase freds price was a great price. Frank provided me with a free rubber pad for the jack saddle.

http://www.reverselogic.us/shop.html#!/Jacks-Lifts/c/6233010/offset=0&sort=normal

I did not have to do any bleeding from this upon purchase, nor have I had to. I have had no leak down, great wear resistance, and no complaints. The wheels have held up extremely well, as that was a concern for me, and even on gravel and concrete have been of no issue.

Would buy compac again as long as quality remains, and my next one will either be a Milwaukee or of the same company without a doubt. Im honestly surprised they arent more well known.

Hey Michigan,

Was going to buy a compac 3 ton floor jack and came across your thread. Had a couple questions.

1. Hows it holding up?

2. Who did you buy it from?

3. Did you have to do any "bleeding" when you got it to get it to work?

A recent look at the ShinnFu/Hein Werner site and I see it no longer says "Assembled in USA from domestic and foreign parts", for the 2 and 3 ton jacks. I take that to mean that they are now completely made in China. Their larger stuff says "Made in USA".
