So after a long and laborious search for a used compressor and multiple failed transactions. I looked at 2 different compressors this week, but the first had 3 sheet metal screws in the bottom of the tank :shocking:! So that was a no go.

But then, I found this gem:

Brand new, still in box. Looked at it, ran it (soooo quiet), bought it. I think I did pretty good for $250.....

Anyone recommend a good compressor oil? Or point me to a thread that does.....

They had these on clearance at Lowes recently. This is still a very good deal at $250. People bought these on clearance for possibly below $150 just a couple months ago.

Well, :monkey_po

Fail!

I don't think my Lowes had them on sale, I am in there nearly twice a week, and have been looking at the compressors every time the wife will let me.

ppl did the online cart trick to get to ~185$. $250 is excellent deal. Somebody one here must have sold it to the OP.

I believe it recommends synthetic 10w30. just grab any from your local retail... pennzoil, castrol, mobil, etc...

Don't worry. Not everyone got them at the $185 or so from price matching at a few stores like the Lowes in W Phili. Some in that thread got them in the $200-$280 range, myself included.

Still a nice deal at that price. I'm happy to finally have air, and that deal got me in a much better compressor than I was looking to get.

Yeah, well, before you let some *&^%# **** all over your parade, the people that got them for that had to play some Jedi Coupon Trick on Lowes to get that price, and most of the ones that tried it didn't get one. You did alright for what you paid.

Yes, I've seen manufacturers say this **** before, and it's still a bad idea to use detergent automotive oil, especially when compressor oils are so readily available now. Lowes, HD, and HF all sell compressor oils, they're single-weight non-detergent oils designed for reciprocating compressors. Just run that.

IMHO you did good. It was very tough to get these <$200.

Sorry I didnt mean to rain on your parade. There was some Lowes in the DC area selling it for around $200 though. Unfortunately, I convinced myself I didnt need one but I really regret not picking it up. I would pay $250 for it as well...

If you got a compressor you're happy with then good for you. Who cares if a few people got it cheaper.

.

I simply walked into the West Philly Lowes and bought the last one they had that wasn't damaged. No tricks necessary. ;)

That being said. I'd consider adding another one for $250 since you can't find them anywhere for that $175 price now.

Still a great deal, and at least the reseller wasn't trying to kill you on it. I've seen some people try to mark them back up to nearly retail (almost $500 IIRC)

You did good OP, I love mine compared to my noisy obnoxious craftsman oilless unit.

Okay, I feel better about the purchase now....

I think it will be a great addition to my garage...just need to decide where to locate it. I am really surprised at how quiet the thing is!

Just to be clear...

You said it's brand new, then you say you ran it, then you're asking about where to get compressor oil... you didn't run it without oil did you?

They came with factory fill.

The correct level is half way up the sight glass.

I hope the OP doesn't think half way up is too low!!

Don't worry, I ran it with oil in it......
But I had to transport the compressor laying down. :(
I was going to drain the rest, add new oil, and then run the break in procedure.

There was a recommendation somewhere farther up in the thread for a synthetic compressor oil... if you're not broken in yet, you're going to want to run a conventional compressor oil for break-in, then switch to synthetic later.

I don't know what the break-in period is on your machine, but the manual for my Champion recommends conventional oil for the first 50 hours.
