New Compressor...sand/grains in tank?

I recently purchased a brand new Makita MAC100Q from Amazon.

Upon picking it up and moving it, it sounds like there are tiny grains of sand and/or metal shot in the tank. They move around when I tip it from side to side.

Is that normal? Is that just left over spatter? It seems like that could either mess up the regulator or a tool I was using.

I can try and drain it - but there is no promise I'll get it all out.

Any ideas/thoughts?

If toy can hear it moving around it is heavy enough to stay at the bottom. Unless you rule your compressor so the outlet port is dead center down it should not be a problem.

Doubt that would be problem for you're regulator or air tools, as Don said, it should stay at the bottom.
Still makes you wonder about the build quality though and what else might be floating around in other parts of that package.

Yeah - I’m pretty annoyed. This MAC2400 I’ve got from Makita is a dream. I love it. I beat the **** outta it and it runs great.

A little irritated at this model though.

Maybe MIG weld spatter from welding the tank? I'd run it with the drain open for a while.

I thought about doing that - but the Amazon return process is way too easy. They're going to send me another one without getting this one first. It's already on its way here.

I'll update back!

I had that rand an it with the drain valve removed. Now that I think about it I wonder if my bore-scope will fit in there to check the tank condition?
