Hello all, I am currently in the process of building a 36x60x16 pole building which can be seen here http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=219843

The concrete is 5inch wire mesh reinforced. My question is this. I want to seal the concrete, but I'm not sure if it needs to be acid etched first, or if I can just put the sealant right on top since it's brand new concrete.

I just don't know enough about concrete and the proper steps to take to seal it. I'm too nervous to do it myself because I would be mortified if I messed it up. I like the finish it has now, I just want it sealed. The shop will be used for automotive work so oil/coolant/water will most certainly come in contact with it.

Any recommendations out there?
Thanks, Carl

It's green enough to seal it right away, you can etch or grind it but you should be ok as long as the concrete is still green

Carl:

Define "sealer". Fortified acrylic, densifier, epoxy, etc...??
Most acrylics and densifiers can go down on green concrete.

Epoxy? 45 days for me.

I guess to be honest with you i'm not really sure!

I know I don't want epoxy, as for the other stuff i'm not even sure what it is. I just know what I need, and that is something that can withstand oil/coolant etc being on it and not stain it or absorb into the concrete. I would prefer a shiny finish as well..

tch, did you decide on a sealer? I too have a new slab, poured the first week of November and I am looking for a similar product.

Legacy, would the HD39 work for this application? I am looking for sealing and stain resistance. Mine is a slick machine troweled finish.

Hey Legacy, if I order 3 gallons, is it ok to sit around until they pour my slab? Its freezing every night. Will that hurt it?

nothing but epoxy will truely seal the stuff your talking about out of concrete. We use a product similar to what Legacy is offering and it works great. You just need to be diligent with the absorbent on big spills.
