New Concrete Step Question

I have everything together to do the epoxy on my floor but I got a wild hair and decided to make a new step from the garage to the house.

It is 8" x 10" x 32". I made it out of Quikrete and just poured it today.

I want to epoxy over the step and am just curious what would be the easiest / best route:

1. Wait for the step to cure and do everything at once
2. Epoxy the floor and do the step later
3. Wait a few days and just do it all step included

Lastly, right now the step is just concrete.....Should I put anything over it before the epoxy? Quikrete recommends using their Acrylic Concrete Cure & Seal about 48 hours after the "slab" is poured. Should I use it or just wait until it cures and put on the epoxy?

Thanks for all the help.

Sure, unless there's a good reason not to, go ahead, take the bold step, and epoxy the new step! But...

You really need to wait at least 28 days before you do that. And don't seal it, or coat it, before then!

There are primers available that will allow you to coat the pour without waiting 28 days, but the one I deal with needs to be applied within 24 hours of the pour, so that won't work for you. That particular primer also eliminates the need to mechanically or chemically etch the new concrete to get a good profile.

So it's really not a good idea to coat the new step now. Waiting and doing it all together means you just need to set up and clean up once, but there's no technical reason why you shouldn't do the floor now and the steps later. Whether you want to do the rest of the floor first, or wait to do it all at the same time, is up to you.

Thanks for the help...

I will go ahead and do the rest of the floor now and do the step in a few weeks.

Thanks again.
