Hi,
First off, thanks to all who post here, as I spent a lot of time reading about other people's garage humidity problems.
I had a new build 1000sf attached garage finished in early Sept. I wasn't really monitoring the garage humidity in the fall, but as the temperature hit the single digits, I started to see my insulated garage doors dripping with condensation to the point it was dripping down my garage doors and freezing them closed. I have shaft style door openers and was worried about them breaking with the doors frozen down. Both my wife and daughter had issues when they came home,so I started to look at what the humidity was in my garage. On average it was around 60-70% depending on if the cars came in with snow or not. That humidity level was very concerning to me.
I do know that my builder put vapor barrier in all the walls and ceiling , so I came to the conclusion that there wasn't anywhere for the moisture to go. I currently keep the garage at 53-55 degrees all winter unless I'm out there working on a project. After reading through the threads on here, I thought that a vent fan would be a great addition to help remove the moisture.
I found this one on Amazon and figured, I'd give it a try since the installation was pretty simple and it had a built in adjustable humistat (set it and forget it)

I purchased the largest option which was 300 cfm vent fan and had it installed in about 20 minutes when it arrived. My RH was around 68%(lots of condensate on the garage doors) when I installed the fan, I set the humistat to around 50% and let it run over night. I have to say, the unit worked great and when I checked in the morning the humidity was reduced to an acceptable level along with the condensate on the garage doors/floors and it has been maintaining it since installation. I'm not sure where all the humidity came from in my garage from the start, but the problem has been resolved with this unit. I was very impressed that it was able to solve a garage humidity problem, that seems to be pretty common after researching online.
Just wanted show another reasonably priced option to others that may have had humidity problem in their garages and as a bonus, it doesn't take up too much wall space.
Best,
Jim
