Why winning the Epoxy-Cost contest would be great!?!

Because I spent my entire first time home buyer credit on renovating this foreclosed house, walls, floors, door, windows, etc.. Then 6 months later, a pipe broke and flooded it. Insurance dropped my coverage... Spent my garage/man cave money on new flooring, baseboards, and ServPro contract...

Nothing is more Humorous than that!

Oh, and Im getting tired of my neighbors laughing at me because my garage has been taken over by my 5 year old daughter... Dubbed, " The Tea Room."

Great stories from everybody!! You have about 5 more days to get them in. I will post the winner here Monday afternoon 2pm EST.
PS. We may give a kit away to 2 winners, instead of just 1.

Why I’d love to have an epoxy floor…
I bought my first house back in Sept of last year and it’s been a nonstop overhaul ever since. Being forced to work 6 days a week to swing the mortgage every month, I have only late nights and short weekends to accomplish all my projects. I have finally made my way to the garage after convincing my fiance to let me stray from the house and get my garage going as it’s all I ever wanted… a nice place to work and store the car in. I have a 2 ½ car detached garage which is about 525 sq ft.
It all started with my neighbor’s bamboo invading my yard so I removed all of it. Well, I think I did! This stuff is indestructible! I then moved onto the structure of the garage and I had found that a squirrel or some mice found their way in there and chewed up the place (wiring insulation etc.) So I gutted the inside of sheetrock and insulation and what was left of the old wiring. After that, I moved onto upgrading the electric to 100 amp service, with the help of some friends and co workers. All was going well at this point. However, during this time I realized the place was spider heaven. So, I had an exterminator come and spray 3 times…yet I didn’t have much luck getting rid of them.
Soon, I noticed the 5 yr old roof leaking. Uh Oh!! Just two weeks ago I thought I was going to have a nice Saturday working on my garage. It has lead me into having to replace all the rotted and weathered Fasure boards (insert the ole saying “open up a can of worms” right here). So now, one thing leads to another, and it turns out the structure is infested with ants. Just after removing the first fasure board, with poorly done flashing that held water, ants come literally pouring out. Ants in my pants, hair, and inside my shirt is an understatement at this point. I had to tear the 2 layers of roof off and replace the damaged boards all while killing about a thousand ants in the process!
Next, on went the new roof. I took a sigh of relief after thinking I had it all under control…WRONG! I had moved a piece of the exposed tar paper since there were some asbestos shingles missing and guess what I found?? ANTS! ANTS! ANTS! To say I had enough ants to probably fill a 2 gallon container is an understatement. So, the following Sunday morning at 6AM I put on my respirator and started stripping the old asbestos shingles and peeled the tar paper as I sprayed every square inch of the paper and sheathing with bug spray. I felt like a window tinter (if you’ve ever seen that being done I had to do the same process!) I found big ants, small ants, and winged ants…it was amazing. I am still itchy just thinking about it.
I now go to finish the outside and find that the bottom plates and the sheathing are rotted out. The bottom plates were now only the dust remains from the ants fiesta on my garage and water leaking walls. Keep in mind I initially told my fiance I should be able to get the garage going for about a $1000. (Boy was I way off just ask Mr. Visa Card) With our wedding coming up in July, this was all just an added expense that we did not need. However, I had no choice but to take care of the problem as it was only going to get worse. I am still trying to put vinyl siding on the outside to get it weather proof but I am sure I am far from out of the woods. I still have to insulate and sheet rock the interior! The Epoxy floor would be a killer touch to complete my garage and something I probably won’t get to have unless I can win this contest!

Who knows what is next. LOL
Even if I do not win this contest atleast people will see they are not the only ones who opens up a can of worms with every project.

It sounds like you've had to completely overhaul everything on your garage from the floor up. If you win, the epoxy coat will be the icing on the cake to you having a brand new garage, done the hard way.

Assuming I've already won one of the kits, I'll have to inform my other personality to come up with something funny to say...his garage is worse than ours is! Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm a schizophrenic and so am I!

My birthday is Sunday the 2nd. At 53, scooting around on that cold hard cement is harder on the bones than it once was. I own a Jeep and wheel it as often as possible which also means I'm in my garage working on said Jeep when not out on the trails. Since JEEP stands for Just Empty Every Pocket, I have to get the biggest bang for my Garage/Jeep/Wheeling buck. Tires and repair parts eat up most of that budget with tools a close second.

I sit here many nights looking at the incredible "repair facilities" many of you have put in so much time on, and sweat, not to mention dollars. YET... every time I open the door to my garage and step out into it, it never quite looks like a place I'd want to post pictures of here, let alone brag about. If I had a nice shiny, clean, rock hard floor, I may be able to scrape some extra dimes and pennies out of the garage budget for a fresh coat of paint for the walls so I too can post some pictures and say, "Hey... what do you guys think of this?"

I am NOT what anybody would call a "funny guy". So here's some of my "story".
Once upon a time, lived a woman, a nice woman. It turns out she is my sister's best friend. She "won" HER house in the divorce. Two years later we meet. We fall in love. She asks me to move in. Um, YES. Three years later we have enough $ to build a garage in the back yard. 596 sq', 9' ceiling, lots of insulation. Now, my/her's/our's, '56 Chevy has a home. The "house garage" is now a "drive thru". The floor in it is pretty ratty. Yes, that is were I would use the prize kit. That is were her car gets parked. My wife has been, beddy, beddy, good to me.......

p.s. there are pics. of my garage build at: http://www.trifive.com/forums/
in the garage/workshop section. I'm the one, "now it's time to build a garage".

and yes, I'm appealing to you as a husband who tries to take care of his wife, not that I'm special that way, but if the woman of the house is happy, the whole house is happy !!!...........

Hi,
Here are my top 10 reasons for needing/wanting/deserving an awesome Epoxy-Coat floor for my new garage:

1) I am finally building my dream garage with the help of my dad, of whom I have learned every skill that I have.

2) I used "whom" in the previous sentence in grammatically correct fashion. (I think?)

3) I have worked on cars in my driveway since birth 28 years ago. Yes, birth. Some say that I came out of the womb with a wrench in my hand. ......Yuck.

4) I bought a 1964 Chevy Impala with paper route money out of a "carriage house" (barn), when I was 15. It was rough looking to say the least. After 13 years of ownership I have driven it ~10 miles total. It turns out that garageless body-off restorations take a long time, especially when school, work, and girls enter your life. Now that my garage is nearing completion, I can finally get the restoration finished up so that I can cruise with my amazing wife in it.

5) I have a cat named Malibu (named after the car of course), and she would prefer and appreciate an epoxy-coat floor to lay on in the summer.

6) I will do an awesome write-up of the floor progress as soon as I install it with pictorial evidence of my happiness and appreciation.

7) If I told you my last name, you would realize the multiple decades of jokes that I have suffered through. Fortunately it also provided a wacky sense of humor.

8 ) I want my friends to be jealous of my garage floor.

9) You may think I am beginning to run out of reasons, but I'm not, because I have ten solid ones.

10) I will do my best to respect the floor and keep it out of harms way!

thanks Yea the flooring would def going to be a nice addition. I still need to sheetrock and insulate the int of the garage. Atleast the electric is finally done inside.
I had the previous owner stop by last week he couldnt believe what ihave done since we took the house over. I vented but kept my cool about the garage as a structure. Its a used house so ya kinda have to expect it i guess.

I tell ya I never in a million years would of guessed how much work it is owning a house.

Great stories guys can't wait to see who the lucky people are.
I'm off to bed.

My Story
It took me twenty years to convince my wife to let me add on to my garage. Just when I completed it, I was deployed to Iraq. I am back and have just finished it out. Best of all I just purchased a 55 Chevy to rebuild. Before I put it in the garage, I want to coat the floor. So I have the perfect size space: 22x 22; the floor was poured two years ago, the weather is perfect... above 70 degrees, I was just going to look at which coating I should use.. so tell me is this just a coincidence. I don't think so. This was meant to be. Just think how happy it will make my wife.. to have me out of the house and how good it will make be feel to have you help me put the finishing touches on my garage. A nice floor will show case my 55 as I go through the rebuilding. That nice floor will sure be easy to clean so we can hang out and watch football when I take a break from rebuilding my 55. Yes, that epoxy-coat is just what I need. I will even invite the do-it-yourself Ninja so he won't feel too bad about loosing:)

I am currently looking at a flooring solution for my 2 car garage. The home was built in 1964 so you know the garage floor is a mess. I looked at VCT but quickly found out that it rains too much in Maryland and the tiles would come up. I also looked at race deck but decided against that because I do my own maintenance on the three vehicles and felt that cleaning up after working on the vehicles would be a PITA.

So that brought me to epoxy floor coverings. I was hoping to find a consensus on this forum for a product that works well and that a lot of members currently use when I stumbled upon this thread. So I figured why not enter. Hopefully I will be a lot better informed and who knows I might win.

This would be a father and son project for me as well. My son is 10 and enjoys helping around the house with all sorts of projects. I am looking at the floor solution to be the catalyst to really fixing up the garage to be a lot nicer. The current drywall was installed when the house was built but it has never been painted so I need to paint the walls and the ceiling first. This part of the garage makeover will hopefully eliminate a lot of clutter in the garage as everything will need to be moved. Once the clutter is gone doing the floor will be a lot easier. I am hoping to have the garage redone by the beginning of August.

The floor itself will need more prep work that I think your companies products address. I will be poking around the Epoxy-Coat website to find out what is offered and recommended. I am sure there are a lot more members that will have a better story for your consideration and I wish all entrants success.

One way or another I will have a nicer garage by the end of the summer.

My dog vomited on my unfinished garage floor, then stepped in it.:(
A while later, I noticed and cleaned it up, but it left a stain resembling the face of a prominent religious figure . Please help me cover it up, it's creepy.

I would air this story on the local news, charge $5.00 a picture for all the gawkers, you'll have traffic jam in your neighborhood, and get rich...LMAO :lol_hitti

We are so very excited over at the house. Can't wait... The kids are at home with finger paints hand making thank you cards!

Which, I might add is not easy since I had them cleaning out the garage all weekend in preparation for the wonderful gift you will be bestowing on my family, my children and all the other folks I already mentioned who have not yet pulled the proverbial trigger.

How a 2 and a 3 year old moved all those cabinets out I will never understand. In retrospect I should have stayed awake and supervised instead of passing out on the couch.

DISCLAIMOR:
The above is a joke. Well, the part about moving the stuff out of the garage. Mom and the girls were out of town and me and the boy went to the museum of transportation to see the fire trucks and choo choo trains!

Also, in case you were planning on giving a floor to the Ninja. His wife e-mailed me over the weekend to tell me that he and his entire garage floor tragically disappeared during a ninja trick :(

So, needless to say, he will not be able to use your fine product.

So...the boss was looking over this thread last night and really liked the stories. He told me he thinks we need some runners up....he told me to pick 3, I couldn't. I picked 4.
He wanted to offer $100.00 off if they want to order (any size order) and of course free shipping. My choices are:

I'm a winner? (runner up)
I would like to thank the Academy and all the little people who made this possible!

Ruddy, I thought you had already done your garage floor with Epoxy Coat? Does this mean you won a rebate or are you getting ready to tackle another project? Just curious, Rudyjr

The garage I did is at the "Dream Home" we hope to make a permanent move to sometime in the near future. We still have our current house in the city that has a standard 2 car, 432 sq ft garage. I'm thinking a nice gray, no flake epoxy would make a good selling point when the time comes. Of course this one is 40+ years old, so even though it's half the size, there is much more embedded crud to deal with!

Ruddy, Look forward to seeing the pictures of your next project floor. I am still trying to finish my garage that I built 25 years ago, the one I posted about earlier in this thread. I finally got the drywall finished and painted that I hung years ago and I am building my cabinets. Hopefully I can get everything done before one of the girls tells me that they are getting married!!:lol_hitti Rudyjr
