I've got a set of snappy mid-length 1/4 drive metric sockets because I thought I could get by with one set of those as opposed to two separate sets of shallow and deeps; but there's been times where the mid-lengths were too long for tight places and I wished I had a shallow.

I have a set of S/O semi -deep in std 3/8 drive. I like them if there is space and just feel better than using the deep ones.

I wish the mid depth swivel socket were still around. I've been waiting for a deal on a used set of them since forever.

It's weird how SO has shallow swivels and deep swivels in both metric and standard, but the mid-depth are only in metric. I'm, the opposite of you Nissan, in that I only work on metric stuff.

I have the semi deep metric ones as I thought they would be a good compromise. Within 6 months of owning them I had gone and bought a set of shallows and I now have deeps too.

Since the day I got my deep set the semi-deeps haven't left their resting place. So, in agreement with Merkava, I wish the last two sets I bought had been the first (and thus last) two.

I have a set of 3/8" drive mid depth metric snap-on impact sockets that I really like, they are my go to 3/8" metric sockets for most things.

I have the shallow swivel sockets, but sometimes I need mid depth. Deep swivels don't work for what I do. Most of the time I want mid-depth is to get nuts on/off studs in/on a turbine.

Gotcha, I didn't release you wanted them for a specific application. If it were me, and if it were only 1 or 2 sizes, I would get some deeps and cut them down.

Cutting off sockets to make semi deep ones??? That's something I have never thought of...or needed to do...guess that answers my question as to if I need any. I want to add to that though. Not all sockets can be cut off to make semi deep ones. Craftsman sockets can because the hex (6 or 12 pt) bore goes all the way down. Most others can't because the hex bore only goes down far enough to accept a nut or bolt head and the "depth" part is only meant for the threads. Interesting difference in design though.

When you need them they're worth a millin bucks. When I worked on Nissan/Infiniti a common problem was the cat converters on the Maxima & I30. P0430 meant you were replacing the lh cat. I found a mid length 13mm cleared the excess manifold studs & the heat shields that bolted to the converter. A deep wouldn't fit with the shields on. It was 100% easier to swap the heat shields with the converter off the car.

I have a full set of Craftsman mid-depth sockets, both standard and metric. I think they only sold them for a short time. They are usually the first I grab.

Cornwell has had those mid length or semi deep sockets out for more than a few years. The only thing I don't like about their sockets is that they still use a hole on one side as a retention device instead of the scalloped area on each side for the detent ball. I have matco semi deep versions in 3/8 drive chrome and impact along with SK 1/4 drive versions. I find them real handy and use them more than any of my other sockets. If you want midlength impact swivels, Matco's deep are really semi deep and very handy.
Craftsman sold mid length chrome socket sets a few years ago or so. I still have a couple of their sets too. The Mac 1/4 drive chrome midlength deep swivels can be real lifesavers at times too. I would pick up a semi deep set on ebay and give them a try. You may like them. Your results may vary.

Anyone who doesn't think they need semi-deep sockets, doesn't own a set.

Once you've got a set, they quickly become your "go to" sockets.

The 12mm semi-deep snappy, in 3/8" drive, is the absolute perfect tool for that PITA bracket that holds the motor mount on the end of a 4-banger Camry motor. The one that takes forever to remove when you're doing the timing belt.

I have a set of mid depth sockets Cornwell both U S and Metric 3/8 inch drive but they are probably over 20 years old. I use them sometimes. They are handy to put on an impact swivel for exhaust nuts. I bought them at a flea market. I probably have a Proto or Mac to fill out the sets. Buying used you can't always get a full set but I try to match length and quality.

Since Sears no longer sells mid-depth sockets, if you ever have to warranty any of the Craftsman mid-depth sockets, what do they give you as a replacement? Standard sockets or deepwells?
