Saw this in store today, they only had the display. Sticker says available 8/15.
$599 for the pair. Felt really sturdy and has a textured powdercoat finish. I'd say the build is comparable to the HF US General boxes. The drawers have a similar latch to the HF too, the 'trigger' latch on the side of each drawer. Top full width drawer and bottom two drawers had double slides.

No mention of drawer weight limits though, I looked all over it and in the manual.

As said in the other thread, the drawer layout is useless.

Costco often does take consumer feedback into consideration when making their purchasing decisions. I bet if enough people brought up that door on the upper chest they may be persuaded to make a change.

I'd say it's a step below the HF44. Seems sturdy enough, but the drawers aren't as tight as the HF44.

drawer layout looks useless for me, and im not a pro wrencher, but for $100 more you can get the hf44 set and have a better built box than the costco.........but its red

First post!

Thanks to Mr. Moose, I had been eyeing this cabinet at Costco but figured I will go with the HF 44 $389 and the 18" end cabinet (68785) at $199. Same money and I am seeing an edge in both quality and utility with the HF. Before the review here at GJ, I would have never gone to HF for a cabinet but his review convinced me.

The drawer configuration on the Kirkland is goofy and not only the "door". I also have an existing 3x drawer red tool chest (unknown make but very sturdy) that I can simply set on the HF once positioned in my garage.

Do you gents recommend any of the drawer organizers HF offers?

Tool boxes are like women.

Some like the tall, some like them short.

Some like them with big tops, some like them small.

Some like them wide, some like them skinny.

But in the end, they are just a box you need.

Just buy one you like. Ignore the comments if it fits your needs.

I was just in both Costco and HF, tried out each. This box seems extremely well made for the price. The drawer layout is questionable though. You get one less row of drawers but each are deeper. The side drawers would be good for non auto tools, sawzall, circ saw, etc, but overall seems really well made and with Costco's liberal policy, almost a no brainer. I may be in the minority but felt the quality was better than the HF44, however not as well made as the HF56, which IMO trumps the 44 by far.

Looks quite similar to the crinkle finish as the old Torin boxes they used to sell years back and I believe are still sold through Northern Tool. I had the 41" combo and loved it. Very good build quality and really liked the crinkle paint system.

Put my hands on this box yesterday at Costco. In my opinion its pretty sturdy. Drawer layout is not ideal but the latching mechanism is basically the same as my HF56.

If I was in the market I would give this box some serious consideration.

I'd say I coudl put my welding helmet in there but it looks too small for that. I guess maybe my Metabo and die grinders, looks too small for my drill.

I though these were recalled?
Dont think so. Just saw one in the store yesterday and I'm pretty sure it's a new item for that store (Shoreline, WA). Hopefully they will though...and bring it back without that funky door!!

I'm not toolbox expert, but it seemed like a solid box. Not a fan of the plastic drawer latches though. Do the HF boxes really have a plastic latch like this too?

A lot of stuff in store isn't on Costco's webpage. Also each store is free to choose what they want to sell so you might not see the same selection in every store.

Local Costco marked down this "last" but "new" tool box combo

If the price drops even more it could be a better buy than the "other" red top notch tool box combo. And with a slicker price, one could deal with the odd swing-door drawer

Saw this box at my Costco today in Minnesota. Very Sturdy box for the price. I'm an auto student and that odd swing door you are talking about is a great application for a student like myself. I can keep all my information books and my computer in there and not have to worry about them.

Who knows?
If anyone buys these, I'll pay $35 bucks shipped for the pair of "Kirkland" tool-box badges.

I know some people like to peel of the HF emblems and put a Snappy emblem instead. Here's hoping someone wants to do the same with their Costco box.

Please don't steal these and try to sell them to me. +I'll only buy from a senior member.

May I ask why you would want the Kirkland logos?

For kicks and giggles

Imagine going into a pro shop and seeing Costco and Harbor Freight toolboxes in there

My local Costco has 4 of them in stock currently and the stock number is scheduled to be deactivated after they are sold

Interesting take on this. I own and use at work, both the HF 44" and 56".The 44" is really the better made box. The 56"is nice, just not as solid in the area of the drawers as the 44". They flex more under the weight, at least mine do. The 44" is also my roll cart, loaded up full.

I really like the door, if you ever weld in your shop you need a place for your helmet.

I was in costco today and they had this out front trying to get rid of it. I don't think a welding helmet would fit in the door section.

I just picked the costco box up a few min ago. They had it marked $100 off plus I had a 200 cash card.

It was between this the the HF box. With the 100 off and the costco return policy this was the right buy for me. I'm going to unpack it later today.

Just saw it in store... price is down to 499 til 12/1 seems solid and would be fine for me as a general homeowner garage box. Plus I can't afford snapon/matco.

My store is priced at $599.
I have a question about the safety latch you have to undo everytime you open the drawer. Would I end up using my right hand on to grab the drawer on the right, could be inconvenient if my hand is really dirty. I prefer the little detent that you push in. Also the safety latch thing is made of plastic but it's riveted. Possible to replace it in the future? Do you unlatch the drawers you think you need and then just latch it all back when your job is done?

As for quality it is pretty good, I drove right to home depot and the husky one is thinner and the double railed drawers seems misaligned and super hard to pull out. I know you are supposed to put some weight but I think the husky one is not built as well. Though the husky is 599 for a 52" box

There will be a lot of those boxes end up in homeowner garages. The demographic of the average Costco shopper is a lot different than the demographic of the average Harbor Freight customer.
