So I went out to Lowe’s this weekend and decided that I was going to try out one of the new craftsman sets that they sell. I bought the new 121 piece set and gave it a try. So far over the last 2 days working with it they have actually been pretty good! I love the way that they look and believe it or not the new non slip wrenches are really nice to use. I like the fact that the sizes are stamped into the sockets and they are all 6 point. The 120 tooth ratchet works really well and so far feels like a solid buy for a good price. I got the set on sale for $150 and I think that they are going to hold up for a while.

I am a forklift mechanic and put my tools through a lot of abuse so time will tell all with them. What do you guys think about the new craftsman tools?

I'll hold off till Stanley gets their new factory going. Till then, I'll stick with my made in USA craftsman.

If Stanley can get some Proto stuff into the mix and call it.. "Craftsman Industrial/Professional" they'd be one step ahead of GearWrench. :)

Are you mobile? Do you like blow molded cases?

Thanks for the report.

I bought the 51 piece gun metal set around Christmas. I like it also. Tough case for throwing under the seat of the pickup. The made in Taiwan ratchet has a good handle design and nothing wrong with the gun metal finish.

So just to confirm....the Craftsman sets at Lowe's are made in Taiwan and not China?

Yes I am mobile, but I don’t use the blow molded cases. Most of the time I do not use the cases they come in because I need to have a variety of other tools not included in the sets. I have a husky 3 drawer tool box that has my 1/4- 1/2 tools in it, various ratchets and extensions, screwdrivers and pliers/ wire cutting and crimping tools, a meter and my electric Milwaukee 3/8 impact that is a beast. I have all my wrenches in a husky tool bag and I can pretty much repair 90% of what I am working on with those 2 boxes.

That being said I think the case that the tools come in is really nice compared to the junk craftsman cases from sears right now. It had plastic latches and everything snaps into place very firmly.
