Solid. Had a textured sutface for better grip. Not smooth like the older style

I saw this last night before I went to bed and got excited, but now this morning I'm looking around the Sears and Craftsman websites and can't find any new "red" handled pry bars with striking caps. Just the same old Craftsman Pro's I've had for about 10 years now. Based on the OP's description, they sound like the Mayhew handles that have the "ribs" for grip as well as the striking caps. Which would make sense because we all know Mayhew makes their stuff, but those have been around for some time now as well. Hopefully someone can get some pics up.

If there is a redesign, it is likely that they kept the old part numbers and set SKU meaning they would be available through existing product pages; Sears is slow to update descriptions and stock imagery.

As someone that just bought two 43278 sets on closeout for $8/set, I wouldn't mind a third with striking caps.:lol_hitti

Who knows?
Well what'd'ya know?

I wonder why they're doing this? I couldn't see any prices. Maybe they're trying to make a low cost alternative to the Professional series?

Wish Wilde would sell them outright on their website. Work buys a lot of the craftsman bars so I try to get something different so no one confuses them with company property.

I need to check those out, thanks for the pics!

Not to worry, looks like the logo/writing might wear off with some use...

Wonder if these are replacing the 3 pc set that are always on sale for $20. Wouldn't mind getting a set with striking caps.

Am guessing they are. On the Sears hot deal thread soemonee said they were clearance(the ones that are always 3 for 20).
Guess I'll have to stop by to see the difference between them and the pro series. Now that they both have striking caps, I wonder if the Pro series will go on clearance as well.

Glad to hear they are made in the US though. I think a lot of us were expecting them to be Chinese or Taiwan.

Odds are that the Craftsman Professional set will be discontinued, especially now that the similarly-gripped screwdrivers and pick sets gone. I imagine the new set will maintain the previous list price of $42; it certainly won't be priced as aggressively on sale as the old set which has been on closeout for $19.88 since mid-June.

The part # doesn't even come up online that I can find.

My guess. These are going to replace both the pro and regular pry bars. I didn't see prices but another guess would be that they are priced somewhere in the middle. Nice to see them still USA made.

The local farm supply sells a good selection of Wilde branded products. They have the Craftsman and the Wilde pry bars close to each other, the price difference is funny.

To date, I haven't seen the Wilde on sale as low as I got the Craftsman's ($19.99), a few months ago.

If you REALLY want the Wilde marked ones, I would be happy to send them to you, for true cost.

I'd suggesting ordering them from HJE, tomorrow is HJE Day. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329834

The bars are great. My friend has a set, and I now do too. https://www.harryepstein.com/index....for_product_detail=2758&manufacture_country=7

Thanks guys, but I already have a set of the regular Wilde bars....I was referring to the new strike cap ones, hoping Wilde offers those up for sale soon....if they are indeed who is manufacturing them for craftsman.

I did buy my set from HJE, I have the regular set and the next size bigger. Just missing the big boy and the wilde pry bar set will be complete.

Anyone know if the regular red-handled 3 piece set has a full length shank?

Maybe you could just shave the tip of the handle off, weld a piece of round stock to the shank - and end up with a striking set?

No they don't. The shanks only go about 1/3 the way through the handles. I know this because I took my handles off to check the shank penetration depth when I first purchased my bars (multiple bars 12"-36" in size). I ended up drilling all of my handles deeper so my shanks now go 2/3-3/4 the way through the handles. That ensures I always have a metal shank under at least three of my four fingers while using my bars.

Not sure if they are different from Wilde branded ones then - my Wilde red handles have tw shank going to about 1" from the top of he handle - I know this because I strike and beat on them regularly with a dead blow and I can see the top of the black bar - but so far nothing has cracked :)

I'd think they'd be getting rid of the Mayhew made Professional ones if anything. That label has been dead for years, its one of the last hold-outs. The Wilde ones are probably cheaper for them to source too.

I saw these today at a Sears in southern Minnesota. There was no price on them so I took them to the counter and the clerk scanned them and told me they were $39.99. I like the handles better than the previous red handled bars. the thickness of the handles looks to be exactly the same as the red bars.

I thought it was cool and maybe unheard of that Craftsman has 3 different versions of a product for sale at once and they are all US made. It won't last so I took a picture.
