I am building a 30 x 40 detached garage. I will be trenching in a feeder from my house panel to a sub-panel in the new garage which is a one way distance of 280 feet. I will have a 16 x 30 heated section in this garage and this will be my workshop - table saw, air comp, dust collection, welder, etc. My local Menards has 2-2-2-4 AL MHF for $1.82/ft and 2-2-2-4 SE-R for $1.49/ft. I plan to place in conduit. I have already checked on a separate service but that would cost me $500 up front and, more importantly, $38/month. My questions are:
With the 280 foot distance, does the 2-2-2-4 AL wire support 60 amps per code and real world use?
Can both wires be put in conduit and comply with NEC?
Anybody have any better prices on big wire in northern Minnesota?
Thank you in advance.
