I was on the website for Montezuma tools boxes a few days ago and noticed they now have a line of Dewalt licensed triangle tool boxes. The difference mostly is being designed more towards accommodating power tools with a power strip and place for chargers, along with a holder for at least one power tool like a drill. There's two sizes, a 30" and 36" and both comes in three Dewalt themed color schemes. https://www.montezumastorage.com/pages/dewalt-licensed-tool-storage

As someone who uses a 36" Montezuma box daily during haying season and has been working on a solution for storing some power tools in my service pickup, I'm glad they are addressing this need with a new line of boxes. The trouble is, the more I look and think about how they went about setting these up, I'm not super excited about them. The power tool holder is nice and if it could hold a mid or high torque impact, that could be handy to have that with the normal assortment of hand tools. I wish they would show if it is capable of holding an impact that large instead of something from the smaller Atomic line. The power tool holder also eliminates many of the holes for things like ratchets, extensions, and screwdrivers which may or may not be a worthwhile tradeoff. A place for chargers is nice, but it does take away room from the storage area where I usually stuff things like pry bars and hammers. The inclusion of a power strip makes me wonder if they intend these to be more of a shop box vs an outdoor vehicle mounted unit and maybe that's why the overall design seems a bit off to me.

I get why they went the route they did with the design, but part of me wishes they had made a tool box that was meant to be power tool only that would be a bit smaller overall and could then be paired with another triangle tool box that had the hand tools. That said, I'm looking at it from the perspective of someone who filled a 36" up with as many hand tools as I could and am using it out of a pickup and these new boxes do not really fit my needs. That got me curious about what the people on GJ thought of these boxes and if they have some application that I am not seeing.

I rarely have room in my 36" Montezuma's to squeeze in an impact let alone have a special place for one and extra batteries and chargers.

Maybe their idea with the power strip inside the box is that a lot of newer pickups have 120v onboard now. Or you could always plug in the box while the pickup is sitting over night to charge the batteries.

Cool idea, but no way I could get by with that being my only toolbox on the pickup. Might be more that enough for some people's situations though.

I could get into your idea of a box for power tools only. A 16-20 inch wide box that was the same height and depth as the normal Montezuma's could easily hold impact, drill, grinder, spare batteries etc. Would keep them from getting beat to sh!t banging around in a regular Montezuma, cab of the pickup, box of the sxs, wherever you stash them

Is Montezuma still doing the Deere boxes? Theyre still up on Deeres site but I wonder. Or maybe they arent Deere exclusive.

Part of me thinks that these are really sharp-looking toolboxes.

Part of me thinks it’s a little fanboi-ish to buy a toolbox that prominently features the branding of your preferred brand of power tools. (Sure, Snap-on and Craftsman boxes have branding. But Dewalt is not known for toolboxes and is not a toolbox company, as evidenced by the fact that they subbed this out to Montezuma.)

Part of me thinks this just makes your mobile toolbox extra-attractive for thieves. Nice tools inside!

That's pretty close to what I had in mind. Maybe a box like that is too niche for most, but I would like to think that some of the people that use Montezuma boxes would like a second box that has a decent way to organize some basic power tools. At least it would be more attractive than these Dewalt boxes that try to hold both and doesn't look to do a good job at it. Maybe a dedicated box just sounds good right now since I am currently working on a way to store an impact, drill, and grinder with accessories for field use. I'll probably end up making some sort of storage set up in an underbody box or some large ammo cans, but having a close enough off the the shelf solution would have been appreciated.

If I had to be honest- I'm not making a living with my stuff. I have boxes from both Husky and US General, both are nice, and I can't really tell much difference from a build quality standpoint. 🤷‍♂️

They just released new smaller shop box sized ones with Dewalt branding/layout. Montezuma sent me one to check out in advance:
