New Dewalt Odor

Got a new Dewalt impact and drill (brushed set). I notice every time I use it, it has a burnt odor. I know others have experienced this as well. I wonder whats going on. Brand new stuff, not rebuilt.

It seems the brushes are the problem until they break in.

I had a brushed impact, dcf885 I think, a few years back that put out that smell. I googled it and found out a bunch of other folks experienced the same thing with no ill effect.

I have a brushed drill and a brushless impact, no smell from the impact and the usual smell from the drill

I notice a smell with a lot of brushed tools. Is that ozone? I thought the arcing brushes created ozone, and that was the smell.

My impact is no spring chicken, and it still stinks. Works fine though.
