I am looking to replace my un-insulated garage door with a new insulated door. The contractors initial estimate listed an Amarr Lincoln LI2000 which is a double layer steel and insulation door with a listed R value of 6.64 (about $900). Looking at the brochure, there is also a triple layer option (LI3000) with a R value of 9.05 which I was quoted roughly $200 additional for. Is the additional layer worth the added cost for an increase in insulation value?

Double check and see what a 3 layer door would cost. With the insulation captured between the skins, it will be a better, stiffer door. Don’t know where you are located but think of that door as a 20 year investment. If your garage space is heated or cooled, it may be worth your while to upgrade to a 16R door with good seals. Amarr makes them, but I don’t know what their current model designation is.
