I bought some new kwikset locks for my doors to my garage. However, when I go to install it the key slot is upside down. How to I address this? The instructions don't mention it, I couldn't find anyting on thier website about it. Do I need to go back to the locksmith again? Thanks all!

I hate to have it opposite the deadbolt on top. A quick check of thier website, it looks like a locksmith can flip it. I wonder if it's something one could do at home though.

Take the lock out and turn it 180*, then reinstall ...russ

On most of the low security Kwikset locksets I've seen, the lock part pulls straight out and can be re-inserted clocked 180* out as russ says. It may not seem like it will come apart without breaking, but it does. Naturally, if you break it following this advice, you own both pieces...

Usually its straight forward; but if you are still having a problem, post some pics for us to look at.

I can't remember how many locks have seen that have just been slapped in upside down, when 2 seconds of thought and care would have solved the problem. :headscrat

When you say "upside down", do the teeth on the key point up or down? The teeth should always point up when you insert your key into the lock. This prevents water from accumulating in the cylinder and corroding the pins in your cylinder. You would be surprised to see the difference between the pins in a cylinder that has been upside down and one that has been correctly installed. Especially in less expensive locksets, like Kwikset (a Black and Decker company, by the way) the pins can freeze up after just a few months. You cannot just flip the cylinder 180* since the inside of the lock is made in such a way that the portion of the cylinder containing the pins and springs will only fit one way. Hope this is helpful.
