Great site i stumbled across whilsts looking for some ideas for my storage..
Some truely great projects on here! inspirational...

Anyway we moved into our house about ten years ago and have slowly been renovating-extending over the last few years.. got round to designing my new garage a few months back and started the demolision of old sheds - garage 21st October.
my requirements were the biggest garage i could build without it appearing to imposing in the back garden.. needed some storage above, needed to be a double size, one side to hold my Triumph which i restored some 16 years ago!.
The size i designed was at the maximum before it needed planning permision, and now its up im please with the feel of it from the garden... not too big..
there is an office that will be attached to the rear elevation but thats for some other time, when i got more of it!!

All gone to plan so far managed to get the doors in yesterday & have been painting the inside walls today.. we tiled last week and its rained non stop since then, my plan is to finish the roof (cement to verges & ridges) once the rain stops! I will then leave the outside i think to the summer months but finish the inside over the winter months well im hoping before christmas.. It will be timber cladded painted black. doors in colur to match fascia which matches my house.

Hoepfully ive attached the pictures ok.

all pictures mow here

From this weekend gone

Got the doors fitted temporary in the openings to keep the cold out,
painted the walls down to where the floor paint will lap up over the brickwork. It had two coats but will need another so get the finish crisp.
We installed the electric circuits and got the sockets live.
lights and power door openers and not live until we fix the plaster ceilings in place and skim them. Hopefully this weekend. Once the ceilings plastered will be able to located the door tracks and fit the motors.

Have been surfing for some kitchen units to make the working area.. im thinking of gloss black, with silver worktops for a striking effect. Not sure how they will hold up in what is essentially an unheated garage (until im working in it that is)

Yes the doors are blinding at present.. Im not 100% but when the boarding goes on which will be painted black, the doors will be painted in antler brown... which is the same colour as the barge boards and fascia boards at present.. this im hoping will tie the garage with my house which is here..

From this picture in the foreground you can see some timber i was using to set out the garage on the ground to get a feel for the size of it!

although as everyone says design & build mean just that.. change as it goes along!!

Nice work there fella. Look forward to seeing it all kit out. Is it to be a garage or a workshop?
Like the look of the spitty. A '78 1500 in Inca? Just like mine- but a lot cleaner!

Hi Rick Ipswich Just down the road from me 15mins.. nice to hear from you! garage or workshop.. hmmmn thats a good question... well one half will be for the Spitfire and the other will be workshop.. so i guess a touch of both..

I know i need space to work with benches and machines etc etc but having seen all the real great prestine garages i want it to be a super spotless garage... perhaps build a workshop out back!..

Slider..
Yes its a 78 Inca yello spitfire 1500 with 98,000 on clock.... The yellow is a great colour but it really attracts black flies in certain times of year..

Here is some pictures as i moved it from its old home!

Ive own it since 1991 bought for £800 and then spent two years restoring it..
Havn't used it since 2000 when i had a small comming together with an idiot what van driver... this allowed me to rebuild the front end with a new heritage GT6 bonnet looks great..
When i needed to move it from the garage for demolision to start i hadn't started it in 5 years.. I put some petrol in a new battery, and after an age of turning over it barked into life.. the brake pedal is on the floor and the clutch, i just managed to pump some fluid to get it driveable up a car trailier...

Looking forward to having the space in the the new garage to work on it..
my idea to give it a thirty year or birthday present and actually use it next year..

Thanks for looking..

How about some metal base cabinets painted the color of your Spitfire with a stainless top. That would look awesome. Since you would be painting them yourself maybe you could find some second hand and save a few quid. Or.... Jaguar Green with stainless tops highlighted with a strip of that plaid that Jackie Stewart wore around his helmet. That would be very unique and very "British". Just a thought.

Workbench..

Progress update..
Pointed in the verges on the roof tiles & ridges, plasterboarded & skimmed the ceiling,, awaiting the plaster to dry so we can give it a coat of paint...
Now thinking about the workbench area..

After much thought and mind changing ive decided to build my workbench and storage areas.... I stumbled across this link..
http://www.rd.com/familyhandyman/content/17667

and im redrawing it to meet my layout and needs.. Its my intention to start the building in the christmas break, I imagine it would take around two days to complete and ive worked out material costs at 170 UK pounds.

Anyone built anything similar that they have a picture of? or got any suggestions to improve.

I will build some wall units too, but will leave these till after the base units are complete to see how it all feels..

Ive linked to my corner layout drawing so you can see where its going

Workbench progress.

90998590.0JwiXvGe.jpg

Well started yesterday and spent around 8 hours so far..
Spent around £240 on ply, studwork, & fixings.
Changed the design from the handyman article as i intend to make doors for the front to hide all my tools.. Its all gone pretty straight forward with no problems and is a real simple design to construct.
Over the next couple of days hopefully i will fix the countertops down.. the bottom shelf was screwed from above through into the studs, but the countertop will need fixing from underneath as I think it will look much better with no screws showing..
I shall leave the doors & wall units until after i have finished the floors which will enable me to get my car & equipment back in from storage.

construction Images can be seen here..
