New drawer slides for my KRL1023

We'll my Snap-On KRL1023 is about 8 and a half years old and some of the drawer slides were starting to get a bit rough to open and close. I talked to my Snap On dealer and he asked how many I need, I told him what drawers were acting up and then I jokingly said just get me all of them. A few weeks later I had a stack of boxes waiting for me and one "fun" project. Installing all these slides got old fast but it was worth it. One of the reasons I bought a tool box from Snap On is the warranty and the lack of a hassle to get the parts warranted.

Cool. I have (2) of those boxes that needs slides.

However, my Snap On man wanted me to remove a few drawers at a time and he would "exchange" them.

I'm not really happy with that arrangement.

They make a special tool for prying the slides from the inner wall; it's the #SPP837. I don't know how you managed without it.

Yea, that is what made it a pain. Literally the day I finished my SO guy showed up and said, oh hey I got the tool to removed the slides. I told him to watch it or I'll beat him with one of the slides. Lol

I wouldn't be a big fan of that arrangement either. The slides I got showed on my account until I returned the old ones the he took the price of them off.

It's that 3rd pocket from the front that the "claw" goes into. The 1st pocket is for the Lock 'n Roll and the 2nd pocket is for the front bayonet. What I did is use a credit card to locate the claw, and then I put the special pry bar next to the claw. If you pry in the wrong place and exert too much force, that 18ga. steel will bend horribly. If you pry in the correct spot, the slide will pop free easily. That's when I got the idea to locate the claw with a credit card. Even when you pry in the correct spot, that thin sheet metal will flex on you and make you nervous.

Yes, exactly what I went through. If you pry out on the slide too much you'll bend the metal that the slide clips on to. Luckily my box survived with no problem. I like the older set up with the screw that holds the slide in.

While it is a pain, I used a couple plastic trim pry tools and a deadblow and it went pretty quickly once I got down the rhythm. I had to redo all the slides on my box as well. You don't need a ton of pressure to release the slides, once the wall is pulled slightly away from the slide (either pried or what have you), extend the slide all the way and give it a slight rap upwards.

That's what happened to me because I didn't know where the "claw" was. Now that I'm an expert by learning the hard way, Snap-on will probably change the design and I'll never get a chance to use my newfound expertise.
