Well after much reading I have narrowed it down to 2 drill presses
A Grizzly G7942 99.95 or
A WEN 4208 for 79.95.
I sort of left the Harbor Freight at the pier on this one.Anyone have one of these and how well manufactured is it? I am not going to quibble about the difference in cost. Thanks,Ken

They are both probably made in the same factory - have you read the reviews on each of them on Amazon yet? I'd throw $80 at the wen and call it a day, unless you can find something on your local Craigslist.

Hi Ken. Those two look so similar that I'd be tempted to assume that they both come out of the same factory in China and just get a different color scheme and slightly different decals. In which case I'd just get the cheapest - the Wen.

If however you can physically inspect both of them, then perhaps just have a feel as to which one feels the most solid, maybe have a feel of how much slop there is in the quill when it's partially extended, and base your decision on that.

Realize that which ever you choose, in that size and price it's only ever going to be a light duty little DP, with about 1/4" max when drilling steel.

Well I guess that I will have to chew on my own words. I went to my local pawn shop today. I walked out with a Central Machinery drill press Model C13B
The real kicker is I mentioned that I need a grinder. He wanted to sell a Porter Cable model 525BG. To sum it up and $107 later I had the pair. For the pair he wanted 125. We settled for 100. He was honest and mentioned the drill press slipped.I took it home and tightened the belt. No more slipping. Forgot to mention that the grinder has a variable speed that works. Comments? Ken

Looks like a nice little grinder Ken. Actually they both look in pretty close to new condition. :)

Is the drill press the little 8 inch 5 speed model, of is it the slightly bigger 10 inch one?
