I live in NorCal, so prices are crazy. Here’s the skinny on my upcoming new driveway:

Tear out existing three car driveway and widen by 10 feet. Total new pour at
41 x 47 or ~29 yards. 3/8” rebar 12” on center, colored, stamped, five 18” bands brushed, one 18” retaining wall, rebar, tapered down to zero at 36’ long.

Contractor one: Appointment set, and then rescheduled at the last minute three times. Ghosted me in the end.

Contractor Two: $28,000, all in. Older guy, tons of experience, including three driveways in my neighborhood. I spoke with all three past customers and they all highly recommended.

Contractor Three, $27,000, and he’ll knock an additional $750 off for cash. Younger guy, had his license for five years. Nothing in my neighborhood, but good Yelp reviews. Very nice, professional and likeable.

Contractor Four: $39,000 all in, and that includes “Spring special of free tear out and haul away of existing driveway.” This is a long established contractor that did my pool deck 10 years ago. Pretty sure I got ripped off.

I went with contractor #2, middle bid. I couldn’t overlook the great reviews by others in the neighborhood. It really pained me to not give the job to the young, hungry guy, but I had to look out for #1.

Seems like a no brainer.

Might have went with young guy if he was a bit less and I could see some of his work in person.
