I was playing with the Earthquake XT and compact on Sunday at a HF Store. It reminds me a bit of my IR composite maybe not as well balanced but about the same weight at 4.4 pounds. The mini is cute, but has much less torque.

The feel of the controls is very nice and the forward/reverse switch being on the front and back seems well thought.

I.keep wondering how durable it will be? Will there be any parts or will you be on your own when it breaks?

No one can predict how long this new XT will last or the parts be available. It does come with a exploded parts diagram in the manual but I do not know where one can get the parts. From the parts manual the design appears similar to the standard $99 Earthquake wrench.

Low cost, high torque numbers. It will be a favorite of tire change jockeys. How many stripped wheel studs and lug nuts will we have now??

I think that HF is pricing themselves out of the market.

With Aircat very close to the same price and performance, I don't see why you would go the HF route with only a 90 day warranty compared to 2 years with the Aircat, which is also generally considered an better product.

My guess is they have a "sale" price that is much more competitive.

Due to shop politics, I ended up picking up the 3/4" over the weekend. Excited to try it out as I work in a very busy medium duty shop with about 260 cars in our building, with roughly 45 of those being my fleet that I am solely responsible for.

Will let anyone know who is interested how this thing works.

149.99 normal price. Most likely a 129.99 coupon or use a 20% off. Still, with tax it is within 20 dollars of the Aircat.

I'd take the HF over the Aircat just for the directional switch. The only finger friendly Aircat is the 1275XL which isn't as powerful. Besides how cheap do you want it? Plenty of cheap (sub $100) impacts out there and they'd barely remove a lug off a pick-up or they have decent power and the ergonomics of a brick.

Was expecting more out of the 1/2" XT. Quite a few guns with lower max ratings are significantly stronger still.

The numbers look good but time will tell with how well these hold up. Especially once these start getting some real shop time at the hands of newbies and tire changers. Not sure about the whole 90 day warranty B.S. though.

I will be curious to see how they hold up in a heavy use shop too....
For the occasional home user,I'm sure these are more than adequate for the $$.

The problem is Aircat tools are not sold in a big box store that anyone can walk into and buy.

Simple...for those of us with local HF's....when I need it I need it. 2 Sundays ago I stumbled upon the need for a 3/8" Air Ratchet for the first time in my life...had it been a week day, I woulda texted my SO guy and MAC Guy...whoever was closer to me woulda gotten the sale. So I got in my truck and hit the HF for the Earthquake rat... I will admit, the quality of the Earthquake had me some what surprised..worked like a champ. If it dies I'll probably get a MAC or Proto air-rat..

I have used the 20% on Earthquake products berfore, but I just checked the coupon and now certain "Brands" of tools are on the Non-Applicable list.

I know I used a 20% on my Portland Electric chainsaw and polesaw last fall.

I like Harbor Freight, but some of the stuff is only worth it with a 20% off coupon. I guess I will start buying more online and less at HF if that is the case.

exactly. same reason people bought so much craftsman over the years when there were better tools available. IF S-K was in every box store or major retailer for 30 years, their history would look quite different.

I just looked up some of the new 20% off coupons and they do exclude earthquake now. I have in the past used 20% off coupons on the basic earthquake models, but looks like that is over now.

Put it to you this way .. they can't be any worse than the Made in China IR products. IR stopped making good air tools about 10 years ago.

At the end of the day its an $120 (1/2") and $220 (3/4") tool. I didn't really expect to buy it and have it work better or outlast snap-on. Here's an example, Ive had to purchase 4 air rivet guns from harbor freight, just to get 2 good ones. The other two ended up in the metal dumpster. Sometimes that's the price you pay, for the price you pay. ;)

I was in the market for a new 1/2" impact and had the $20 off coupon in hand so i bought the 1/2" XT. This is going to replace my older Craftsman impact which came is a set of air tools and is rated at 300ft/lbs so it will be a substantial upgrade for me even after watching the review.

I have only played around with it but it is light and comfortable and the finish is good. It is made in Taiwan if that makes a difference. Going to be used in my garage so it won't get abused too much.

Good to know about the coupon as I read the fine print on one of those coupons and it excluded Earthquake impacts. I'll just keep my eyes peeled. I only toyed with a store display model and was impressed with the fit, finish, and simplicity of controls. I've had a non XT for a few years and really like it. Pretty much paid for itself after one suspension overhaul. I just wish it had a little more oomph for removing large rusted strut and shock bolts. After watching realtools youtube review, the XT likely to deliver.

There's a special $20 off Earthquake XT Impact wrench coupon in the latest Harbor Freight mailed flyer. It's not a 20% off coupon. This coupon is for $20 off the purchase of a new Earthquake XT impact wrench.

In the same flyer, there's also a special $20 off coupon for the purchase of their new yellow floor jack.

I guess it's Harbor Freight's way of selling more of their new products:dunno:

I bought this last week and had to use it yesterday. I was so impressed with the torque it has. Broke the bolts lose on my drive shaft and the pinion nut on my 2500 Ram. It didn't even break a sweat, out performed my napa impact gun that it replaced.

good job, good price,
if I still didn't have my 1st generation EQ, I would probably get a EQ-XT.
But I have to watch my money closer these days, Or I would get it any way.

So I just picked up one of these 1/2" on their $119 black Friday weekend sale. I couldn't find the option to purchase the extended warranty.

I purchased online as my local HF was out of stock and told me it would be quite some time before they had more... my question is, if I understood the website correctly, I have to purchase the extended warranty in the store within 30 days of receiving my purchase. Is that correct?

Can anyone tell me the cost of the 1yr and 2yr options?

I got denied the 20% coupon on Saturday as the manager said the Black Friday sale was a "side walk" sale and not eligible under the coupon. I did not buy then but went back today and purchased it for $99 on the cyber Monday sale. I guess I could have gone to another Harbor Freight on tried to get the 20% off the $99 price but enough is enough.

Correct, go into a store within 30 days with your receipt. I believe the replacement plans are $20 and $30 respectively.

Thanks for the reply. I actually ended up cancelling my original order. I saw that they dropped these to $99 on cyber Monday, so I cancelled my original order and placed a new order over the phone and added in the 2 year plan for $34 at that time.

Only bad part is these are on back order till 1/30

I happened to be in my local HF Monday. I was looking at air tools and overheard this conversation:

A guy was looking at the air tools and asked about buying the new Earthquake XT impact. He pulled out his phone and showed the girl working there the sale price on the website and said he would like to buy one.

Her response was "we are sold out of that one and we have a rain check list that's like five pages long." :willy_nil

I forgot something at HF and went back to HF again yesterday and the guy in front of me in line was buying two of the XT impacts with a rain check. The cashier said they wouldn't put the impacts on the shelf because of all the rain checks.

That doesn't seem to make much sense to me. They won't let walk-in customers buy them because they're holding them for people who may or may not return with their rain checks.

So I guess they were fibbing when the guy I saw wanted to buy one and they said it was out of stock. In reality, they have them but they won't sell them to walk-in customers.

I just watched the video comparing this to the Snap-on impact and have to say I'm impressed!
