After my CH single stage pump on my 80 gallon compressor went bad, I installed an Eaton 2 stage pump on some recommendations from board members. Had to do make some modifications like remounting both the pump and motor to get everything lined up and buying a 4" double groove pulley for the motor. I installed an inline check valve so I can take the air from the pump to a Hayden cooler, then an auto-drain water separator, then to the refrigerated dryer that's in the shop above one of my powder coating ovens, and finally back into the tank. Nice and dry! As you can see, I used 3/4" PEX for my main shop lines and used 1/2" for the drops to the hose reels and sandblaster pot. I didn't regulate the main line, but did at each drop. Great pressure and flow using the Milton High-Flo "V" couplings. I'm in Tucson, AZ, so I have my compressor outside my shop on a concrete pad with an enclosure around with plenty of airflow. I have to modify my roof supports as this new pump is a monster and sits a few inches higher! Now I do have a question for you guys with 2 stagers; where do you set your unloader? This pump can go to 175, but I've set it to unload at 150. I figure 150 isn't over-working the pump, but giving good air.

Nice job! I like that Hayden cooler. Is that an engine or transmission cooler you adapted for compressed air, or does Hayden make one specifically for compressed air applications?

My personal opinion is that 150psi is just fine - it certainly will be easier on the motor.

Sorry, I thought I had responded, but see I didn't. I believe that cooler is Hayden #1260 oil cooler. Can't take credit for the idea of using it; got the idea from a few guys here. It has 3/4 NPT female threads that I needed for ease of plumbing. It seems to do a pretty good job of cooling as the separator collects the water easily on the output side. Not had a drop of water in my tank even after hours of sandblasting.

That's an excellent set up. Saving this page, hopefully I won't have to replace my pump, but that cooler and drain set up are awesome. Can you post up some pics of the pump to cooler plumbing?
