First I would like to thank everyone that posted before me their experiences and tips doing an Epoxy floor, very helpful info and I knew just what to expect while doing my floor.
My new garage is just under 1000sq ft so I ordered 2 kits which was just enough. Finally had a decent day on Sunday to start it, sunny and about 40-50* .
I ordered the Toupe color and an extra 8 bags of chips for a Medium to Lite- Heavy flake look. My floor has expansion joints cut into 6 equal sections so I divided all the chips into 6 different bags and each kit did 3 sections.
My first attempt I measured enough to do 2 sections which went fine then I did another section to finish off the first kit.
After a break I said screw it and mixed the entire last kit together and finished the garage. Took about 4-5 hrs mostly doing it myself.
The only thing that went "wrong" is I had a few hairline cracks in the concrete and I didn't patch them thinking the epoxy would be able to go over them and filling them in, unfortunetly I can see the cracks in the epoxy finish.
Recomendations:
1-Get a larger squeege and roller then what comes in the kit, I bought an 18" squeege and roller.
2-Fill in any cracks no matter how small
3-Throw the flakes atleast 4-5' in the air, trying to get them in a particular spot can bunch them together
4-Get a helper that is qualified to do the work and wants to help, a wife is usually not a good canidate, mine wasn't
among other things she accidently dropped a large handfull of flakes in one spot
5-The more flakes the more it will hide any imperfections
6-Try to divide the kit into smaller, more manageable sections even thou its more 'messy' work it makes spreading it easier(no rush jobs)
7-Either make or buy the spiked shoes as its needed on the larger floors(I made mine)
Here are some pics, not the best since I don't have any real lights in the garage yet. Its more of a light brown\gray color with black, white and brown chips.
