Today I got a snap on video in my feed. They now have some 4 1/2" deep 1/4 drive sockets, but only on metric. May be good for ductwork, unistrut, or shock absorbers. No SAE sizes, sadly.

Edit:

What would be a good use case?

Edit:
Besides te ones at the 10 second mark. :lol_hitti

I've seen techs use the really long 10mm on glow plugs. I guess you could use them instead of a socket/extension combination. I think the Euro vehicle use is popular though.

i have an extra long 10mm SK socket I picked up one Epstein's day but, I don't think SK makes them any more.

CTA offers a set in 3/8 drive and other manufacturers offer extra long sockets too. I know I'm cheap but, I can't get past the $329 list price for the snappy set. :dunno:

The price is a bit scary. Over 30 dollars or socket. Oof

CTA tools sells an 11 piece 8-18mm that is a pretty nice set that goes for $100-$120 or so.

EDIT: I looked it up again and it's CTA Tools # 1099. ~$125 seems to be the asking rate these days.
Looks like they also have a 5 pc 8-14mm CTA #1700 for $50-65 or so.

Never truly needed a 100 to 120mm deep socket in 1/4 drive .
1/4" drive be bit maxed out on most glow plug removal scenarios I deal with .
Extra deep I find useful is 3/8 80mm deep trident branded .
I bought a set incorporating semi deep (40mm) and extra deep (80mm) and they proper handy in between lengths and pretty good value affordable to all (like 3 & half bucks a socket when I got them)

With pass through sockets and ratchet wrenches, really long sockets not that useful besides very specific speciality tasks and the koken range is most flexible in options for special task scenarios .

To me, super-deep sockets seem cool for places where you'd use a socket and extension..... especially with an impact. Sockets would/should be less twisty (and torque sapping) than extensions, since the whole package is "fatter".

That said, it's a super rare automotive fastener where a semi-deep won't suffice.

Yes nothing new I think snap on and Matco both have had a 10 & 11 two piece set , 11mm or 7/16 are very handle for turbo or air charge cooler clamps

These are not new. A lot of people have them for bumper covers.

Some construction and ag mechanics have a 9/16” version

Uhh if you don’t have a use case in mind, why are you disappointed that they don’t make SAE?
HVAC, need SAE sizes. My knowledge and experience are really limited, that's why I wanted to get more info from everyone else.
