Festool released a new sander this week - a 5" random orbit unit with dust collection.

$99 for the sander, a Systainer case and a $50 voucher toward any other Festool tool purchased before 12/31/2017.

If you want to upgrade your sander or in need of a new one, this one deserves a look. Smooth running, excellent finish, and minimum vibration.

I have several of their sanders and they are excellent. I'm not affiliated with the company or any of their dealers. Just use their tools for furniture and projects around the house.

A $99 sander from Festool? Have they gone the way of HP inkjet printers? Do you need to buy $30 sanding pads with chips inside for it to work?

Apparently, not at all, the pads should last long depending on how well they're treated; and you can use the industry's standard 8-hole sand paper

Festool's own sandpaper appears to be decently priced

I think the only Festool sander that's worth the money is the orbital/rotary one.... I believe it's the ROTEX line. If anyone here do car detailing, you'll know the Flex dual rotary/orbital polisher ... it's basically the same thing.

Dust collection doesn't work with the industry standard 8 hole paper, on my sander.
The festool paper is decent, sometimes hard to find on out of town jobs.
