Hey all,
After much research here and elsewhere on the pros and cons of epoxy, lock-tile, race-deck, etc. I decided on the Race Deck. Got a relatively good price from a local installer and did most of it myself. He cut the edge tiles on one side. We had the whole 3-car floor done in 1.5 hours. Very pleased with the results. Some pictures of the before, after and with the vette on it are below. Thanks for all of the indirect help and support...great forum.

Looks great! I've been researching forever to determine the flooring for my garage and posts like this keep changing my mind. I decided last night to lay down VCT tiles (you can't beat the price) when it warms up in April but now... it may be Race Deck (little pricey though) or Sears or another brand. Good work and layout.

Thanks everyone. I was going with VCT also, but was worried about expansion and possible moisture lifting the tiles. A lot of folks have had good luck with that option though.

Dana, not a Z06...just a wanna-be. Hopefully will get a Z06 soon!

I love it. I have been thinking of using VCT in a checker pattern but now I'm going to reconsider. Very nice.

One nice thing about the plastic tiles is the ability to create internal zones within a space. Your garage shows this with a line around the rear of the garage that is a clear demarcation from the "parking" area that is in a checkerboard pattern. I also like how you used the colors in the tiles to echo painted trim on the walls- nice integration!

Are you concerned about dragging a jack across the tiles, or of damage from jackstands? The plastic tiles seem like a fine idea for showroom-style garages without a lot of wet, messy cars coming in and out, but I wonder how they look after several years of severe duty? I've never seen them, for example, in a dealer service bay.

Anyway, it looks good, and keep us updated as to how it wears!

Thanks Will.
Actually, the vendor had it on his garage for 4 years and it still looked great. You can use Future floor wax to keep it shiny if desired. The floor jack is not a problem, but jackstands can be an issue. He suggested either welding a large washer to the bottom of each leg to help distribute the weight or put the jackstand on a piece of plywood to reduce the risk of tile damage...and I will do one or the other.

I'm getting ready to do the same gray and red combo on my walls. Which gray paint did you use?

The wall paint is American Traditions from Lowes. Colors are "silver leaf" on the top and "high speed steel" on the bottom. The Race Deck lists for $3.79/sq. ft.; I paid $2.89/sq. ft. I have not seen the tiles on eBay.

I am leaning toward the tile I have seen on ebay de to its low price. Although its not made in america its hard to pass up for the price and it will be a better fit for the budget. It is basically the same as the kiwi tile, but I do know that they are changing the diamond plate style from what you see to the traditional diamond plate pattern like that of racedeck.
You can also se this floor tile and lots of other automotive equipment at

It does look like Kiwi Tile.. but since I want a mix of FreeFlow and solid tile, I am going with RaceDeck.

Nice job tah81

You have inspired me !!

I like your colors and the whole look.

Looks very good

I do think that I have made up my mind to go with VCT. Black and grey, with a rectangle section marked where the cars sit.

I like the fact that I was able to make it all white under the lift for improved light reflection back up under the car :)

And NO I am not concerned ! in my garage they have been used and abused pretty heavily, I have burned them when welding but have not damaged them with my lifts or other items. I did have some damage the very first weekend from a table saw caster, RaceDeck replaced that tile and it has not happened again, it was a defective tile I guess. My jack stands are AC stands with a round metal base.

The tiles you refer to here appear to be those called Big Foot - which I've been looking at too. Just worry about PVC being noisy! Any comments????

Race Deck does have it's own unique sound when you walk on it, but I wouldn't characterize it as noisey. After the first week you won't even notice it.

I agree ... Race Deck flooring does have a unique sound when you walk on it. I wouldn't call it noisey either.

BTW, nice floor TAH81.

If you are interested in a Race Deck floor, contact Race Deck and ask for a couple of free sample tiles - I did and it allowed me to truely understand the product. Then you'll be able to understand what the Race Deck floor will sound like.
