On eBay and some Internet vendors lately I'm seeing a lot of new Ford branded tools (socket sets and wrenches) such as fmcfhtei078epmm. Does anyone have the story on these? COO? Clones of anything well-known? Quality level?

I see the wrenches are called Metric Elliptical Panel. What the heck does "Elliptical Panel" mean?

They are branded china made stuff - just like Ford (every car company really) puts their name on hats, shirts, toys... Mopar tried it with tools a couple times. I have a cheap (really really cheap) Dodge Motorsports household tool kit from the mid 90's.

Even Ford specialty tools don't have the Ford logo on them while the case will say Rotunda.
Raised oval panel - think Craftsman wrenches - raised panel... oval shaped like Ford's emblem.

I was looking for something else, and just discovered this- Ford branded tools are managed and marketed by K Tools International:

http://www.ktoolinternational.com/kti/catalogs

Hmm looking at the PDF, there is a website:

http://ford-tools.com/

This site now comes up on a Google search for "ford tools", it did NOT come up on the same search in December when I started this thread. Apparently KTI is stepping up their Ford Tools brand marketing.

Just idle curiousity. I'm not selling my SK wrenches or anything. :)

I've been seeing dollar store multi bit screwdrivers for sale on CL with Ford stickers on the blow mold cases. Not sure if they are some POS junk being sold under the Ford name or if some scammer bought a roll of stickers so he can sell his 99c screwdrivers for 10 bucks.

The only Ford tools I know of are a cutting torch and a hammer!!! Ha ha ha......

But in all seriousness, the only "Ford" tools I know of are the old Model T/Model A Ford branded tools, for use on those cars, made a century ago.

Those, and the Rotunda tool sets that all Ford dealerships have. Specialty tools for Ford products for their technicians to use. You can buy them if you like, but they are ungodly expensive. I was just looking into buying an 8.8" axle pinion depth tool set, stupid expensive at $1,700 online. The Rotunda tools are made for Ford by OTC I believe.

lf the prices were right l'd be just stupid enough to pick up a set or two just for the name on them. They'd be users too probably.
Those won't be around long if it goes the normal route and the oddball brands will be cool to collectors years ahead when all this China avoidance is more diluted.

There is a bit of older Ford stuff in my piles already, not a surprise but most of that is low grade **** of old, but USA made ****.
l'd have it all if l could anyway.

K-tool actually makes some ok stuff…but seriously ford tools? I can't see them being anything but a marketing scheme. Ford should stick to cars and trucks, leave their name from taiwanese tools.

I bought an entire pallet of rotunda branded tools from the dealer that went out of business (I will hopefully be selling some of it soon :) pitiful plug) .......The stuff you are talking about is made in china and is being sold at a bunch or retailers lately "licensed by Ford" blah blah blah.... my guess is it's more of a novelty than anything else.
