Have lurked a bit, as have never had a garage to make use of some of the experience and good ideas here.
Live in a small town in Central Alberta, and have what was a 1200 sq ft modular home on two town lots. (have never had a home with a garage)
About a year ago, or some strange reason, we decided that now that the kids are gone, we need to make things bigger
Always wanting a pool table, the plans started with a 20 x 20 addition. My background is in the oilpatch dealing with vehicle safety, so no real experience, but my dad was always one to try and "do it yourself before hiring it out" Plans kind of morphed and end result is over the past year, we have built a 76 x 20 ft addition (mostly family room) and just for kicks, stuck on a 32 x 40 triple attached garage.
Design of home which is on pilings above grade, and lot which has a bit of a slope ended up with a garage that has 12 ft ceilings. I used 10 x 10 doors to give lots of room. Garage and addition about 80% complete, just doing drywall now. One bay of garage has a wall seperating it from the two parking bays, and will be my workroom, shop area. We have done everything ourselves, with some volunteer help, except for furnace and ducting, and the garage floor poor. Nice thing is that through the process I have accumulated some nice tools ,and look forward to discussions here in the future.
Note - The welcome message says I should introduce myself in the Introduction forum, but at first glance, I could not find it. May want to have the message include a html link to the actual forum.
