Hello and Howdy – I’m new to this forum. I moved onto 113 acres with nothing but a rutted dirt road accessing it. I’ve been through water development, photovoltaic installation (no power lines here), grading, some building, gardening, and – well, if I haven’t done it, I probably will (if I don’t kill over first). I figure I can learn from you folks, and hopefully contribute some too. Wife and I are planning a shop which will house all our projects – just in the sketch stage at the time. It’s going to have to be big. She wants to build it with steel, I want to use CEBs (compressed earth blocks).

Welcome. There is a dearth of alternate building styles here and I would like to see some. Be sure to stay with us especially if you do the CEB construction.

BTW, what is the wife's aversion to other than steel?

One of our neighbors has a large metal shop equipped with lathe, milling machine, .. lots of goodies, and it could be she is influenced by that .. Also, a metal building will go up fast. My concern is its cost and the sterile appearance metal buildings have.

Welcome to the GJ from VA! That 113 acres and a rutted road sounds great! Please post pics when the building projects get going.
