I hope everyone is having a great day. I am not sure where to post my generator issue. Can anyone advise? Thanks

I have a generator with an electric start that has only 40 hrs (practically brand new) on it and I cannot get it to run. It has not been started for about a year, it has an electric start it will only start an run for a few seconds when priming it directly through the carburetor.

What I have tried so far:

Drained all gas and replace with new
Drained and replaced oil
Removed fuel filter and verified that fuel pump was pumping when turned over
Sprayed a carburetor starter/cleaner in the carb
Installed new plugs
Installed new battery

The portion of the carburetor that is visible is very clean. I ruled out the low oil shut off as the problem because I assume that the generator would start first and then shut down.

I have confirmed that gas is making it to the carb but still not starting but it will run with gas or starting fluid fed through top of carb.

Any suggestions of what to do next or insight anyone might have would be appreciated. Generator is a Powermate by Devilbiss 10K with a Honda 20hp V twin engine w/electric start.

Thanks I'll try cleaning it. Sounds like I could have avoided this if I used StaBil, definitely on my shopping list.

On some of the newer engines there is a fuel shut off on the bottom of the carb that sometimes likes to stick. Is there any wires going to the carb?

Thanks again everyone for your help. I did remove the carburetor, took it apart and cleaned every piece. I also discover what I assume is the fuel shut off that DHS mentioned. I put everything back together and I am still having the same issue. I go to crank it and it just turns over and won't start. So I tried priming it with little gas and it starts and runs for a few seconds. I repeated this process a couple of times with the same result. I didn't turn it over enough to run the battery down.

DHS the shut off at the bottom of the carburetor was frozen with a bit of gunk on it. After cleaning it I could push it in and it would slowly move out to the original position. Do you know if that is normal?

I have included a couple of pictures any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just gave it another try and it cranked!!!! I guess I just wasn't persistent enough the first time. Seems to be running fine now.

Thanks again everyone!
