Hello, have found much useful info on this forum via Google while in the process of finally building my dream garage. Decided to join and hopefully learn more about my future garage/workshop from the wealth of experience of others who have walked this path before me.

Nice shop addition to your place. Looks like a lot of room in there.
Thanks! Yes, it’s a lifelong dream build! I have 2 adult sons now who grew up working on cars with me out of our 18x18 tiny 2 car garage and our 15x40 side parking pad in the GA heat! Always dreamed of a garage with any kind of lift so we can work in the shade. Now that the boys moved out we considered downsizing but the housing market here (and everywhere else) is still crazy so I would have paid more for a smaller house with a smaller lot and taxes would have stayed same or gone up. It just didn’t make any sense. The only real reason to down size would be to get a master on the main or ranch so we can get old there. 😀

It made more sense to use as much of our existing lot as possible and just add on. We took an existing main floor bedroom and converted it to a new master bath and then added a 20x14 master on main, which resulted in needing to add to the basement to support the new master by 20x14 as well. That basement addition is the new yard equipment and motorcycle garage (opposite Sid rid house with single car garage door and side walk to the street). Then, we could now attach (HOA requires attached buildings) a 45’x24’ - 4 car garage which ended up with a 15.5” ceiling. Perfect for lifts!
