New guy here, been checking out the posts for quite some time. End of this month I'm moving into a new home and currently working with the builder on design and build a detached garage 30x25 with 12" ceilings.

I would like to get some feedback on Fluorescent lighting, the builder has his brand that he uses, not sure what size or type, I have requested the info. But he has told me that if I have a specific brand/type that he could provide me with a price.

Those of you who have high ceiling garages, what type of lighting would you recommend? I know that I want to do plenty of fixtures, but want to make sure that I maximize my budget and have a super bright garage.

The inside of the garage will be finished out in sheetrock, walls and ceiling.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

12' is not high.
Most contractors get their stuff from electrical supply houses. They normally carry brand name stuff, even if it's the economy grade.
Bang for buck, use T8 strips, no reflectors. Anything more than that is your personal choice.
Good luck

F54T5HO is just plain wrong.
F32T8 is correct.

Thanks Platonic, yes the more I research, the T5HO is definitely not what I want for a garage that will have 12' ceilings.
I checked out a lot of your postings in reference to lighting, what would you recommend for my build, it will be 30'Wide x 25' Deep, (1 two garage door and 1 single garage door)The T8's seem to be the right choice, but as far as fixtures which would be the best bang for the buck? Dual bulb fixtures or 4 bulbs, 6 bulbs per fixture? Fixture length, 4,6,8ft,???

thanks,
Mike

The fixture layout closest to yours is "DSPark13: 36’ x 27.5’ x 12’".

If you're up for the challenge, the best bang for the buck is to build your own 8ft tandem 4 lamp strip fixtures as detailed in " ihscomputers 40x60x14". (A lot of work went into those PDF wiring diagrams).

If we had used the "build your own" ballast and lamp combo in the DSPark13 layout, it would have 15% higher output.
