That's for insulation to go in the cavity. Probably the most common way to build houses/extensions/garages here in the UK.

PS. It's looking excellent.

Only just found this thread so I hope nobody minds if I answer a couple of old questions.
The cavity is there because the bricks are porous so if rain beats on that wall for a long time any water that gets through simply runs down the cavity and seeps away underground rather than soaking the inner leaf of blocks. It was then realized that it was a convenient place to put the insulation.

Will you frame with wood inside the brick walls for the interior finish?

No. Ocasionally we will "dry-line" with sheetrock(plasterboard in the UK) but that is normally only done on old uneven walls.
In this case the blocks are the internal wall and they will be "plastered" with what I think is something similar to your Sheetrock "mud". That will then be covered with a decorative coating of paint or wallpaper.

Just went through the build. Looks awesome! Love the construction on your side of the pond. We only build with brick on commercial projects. Even then, sometimes a four story building may be all wood frame.

I noticed your roof doesn't get sheathed with plywood. Thought that to be interesting. our area in Phoenix, the roofing is done almost the same with the exception of sheathing under the tiles.

its something i need to look in to but for the moment my engine lift and car lift will do

well the roof is nearly done forgot to get pics as i have been painting all day any 1 whos paint block work will know how much a **** job that is need to get some more paint as i well under estimated how much i need

also built up some wall cabinets also for got pics off them

yes very happy with how bright they are they was £325 for 15 so £21.50 each

ive ordered 2 more which are shorter to fill some gaps but ive got 3 spare which i will use some where

Looking good mate! Not sure if it's an illusion caused by the camera but the joist spacing looks quite wide on that mezzanine. Might not be problem if you are not putting too much weight up there?

Suppose the risk is it bows in the middle and pops off the wall plates... I used this to do some calculations for my place.
